We had the good fortune of connecting with Demarcus Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Demarcus, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was all manifestation! I knew what I wanted to do since I was a teen and I knew that I had to work hard to get to a high level in the music industry. When I started to do music, I told myself that I wouldn’t sign to a major label and that I would create my own independent label and help build and connect the community in music.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lit Life Records is growing day by day and that is what truly excites me! I got to where I am today because I kept going no matter the circumstances that I went through. I faced every emotion from having nothing to invest, no support, and no one to call on when times got hard. I knew what I wanted to accomplish was not going to be easy but I still kept my head up and stayed motivated. I have learned so much from the time I’ve started. The main thing I have learned is to be patient because nothing happens overnight for most of us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend most of the Bar Louie spots in Dallas to hang out and have a drink in for a sophisticated scenery. I also recommend the Omni in Dallas to those who travel and need a landing zone for resting in a peaceful and high-class area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout to my brothers Deon Young (Swaq Ryda) & Dominique Young (Daylight Young) which are artists of Lit Life Records also. They encourage me to push further and grow the label to its highest peak!
