We had the good fortune of connecting with Deidra Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deidra, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My mindset around risks has evolved since taking full pursuit as an entrepreneur. I’ve always been an over-analyzer. Therefore, I create a list of all the worst possible outcomes and instead of allowing room to say “it can’t be done”, I come up with a defensive strategy/plan. The role risk taking has played in my life/career has taught me how to become better with strategy and to surrender where my spirit guides me. Over time you’ll learn not ponder too long, accept whatever the outcome is while learning and being better at creating solutions.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One thing I can say that hasn’t changed throughout my career as a visionary, I have a strong passion for thinking of and applying various details towards any viewers or consumer’s experience. I like to “roll out the red carpet” leading an experience for others to take away a little light to pass along. Everything we do has to have a “why” so I’m very intentional with my delivery and execution.
Working professionally as an interior designer along with architectural studies has had a major influence in how I’ve developed my design process. Whenever I am re-designing an interior space, I think of the ways we must experience versus the ways we want to experience. Then that’s where I marry the two visions. I am excited to have now applied that technique into a new business concept that anyone around the nation can appreciate.
Enchanté is a luxury mobil flower cart that offers the freshest and most unique blooms we don’t often see or get to appreciate conveniently. We’ve established an experience around the idea of what it means to “stop and smell the roses”. Not only are you’re introduced to various flower types but you walk away having learned something new or inspired to pursue that “little idea” . Flowers is a love language we all can speak however the name came with intention to initiate interest in another language and culture. Hence the meaning “nice to meet you”. Parisian influenced, I felt an opportunity to introduce something new to the city of Memphis that would elevate the morale for other creative thinkers and to establish a great business.
Losing my once dream job due to the pandemic became the answer and boost to me stepping out full-time as a visionary and entrepreneur. The biggest lesson I would share that I am still learning is to lean into your fears and understand them! I came up with a saying “Not only do I create experiences, I AM the experience” because it’s becoming clearer that it all starts with spending time getting to know and trusting YOU. I look forward to what’s ahead.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sundays- We brunch! some place with a views, sunshine and tasteful food despite to costs/tab. Monday- relax in. Perhaps a day to site see while most are at work and things are calm, go to local coffee/bakery along with mani/pedi
Tuesday- Morning workout, following a day to mentally check-in with where I am with my goals. Let’s have a work session and productive conversation at an artistic designed restaurant, like Art Bar at Crosstown. Accountability day
Wednesday- Shop til we drop! Doesn’t have to be expensive things but there are some cool spots for art, home décor or a new plant from Golden Hour nursery!
Thursday- Hookah and kava lounge. I enjoy a peaceful environment where we can be social and interactive with games, etc.
Friday- Dinner at Bishops (french restaurant) following a live band perhaps at the new Rooftop lounge, CIMAS.
Saturday- morning workout to play tourists in the city. Ride the trolley, stop at random bars or pubs along downtown Memphis.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dewayne Hunt –master teacher in ministry. If it had not been for his sermon series “Faith time” I don’t think I would have felt as equipped with the foundational tool(s) necessary in “taking the leap”. I’m very grateful to have his influence, leadership and shared wisdom as we all navigate this life differently. His messages are always rich in knowledge and have proven results as I’ve changed my mindset and applied the understanding to my daily journey. I’d encourage everyone to search a solid and safe spiritual leader.
