We had the good fortune of connecting with Dee Walton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a business student, I went straight from college to working for some really great companies. I was a human resource professional and spent my career helping employees, managers, and leaders reach their business goals. I very much enjoyed this part of my job, helping others. But….I wanted to be my own boss. I fell in love with business as a college student and I have re-engage my passion for it as I have started my own business. And the icing on the cake is that I am still helping others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My goal is to provide a level of service for all your real estate needs that best fits you and your family. I partner with my clients to ensure they make informed and confident decisions while providing support, professionalism and resources. The home buying, selling and investing journey requires someone you can trust and that will put your needs first and this is the foundation of my business.
To be honest, I just went for it! After 15 years in corporate America, climbing the ladder, mergers and acquisitions, I was ready for a change. NO! It was not easy. Leaving a stable job where you don’t have to guess where your paycheck is coming from is not easy. Not to mention all the people who project their fears on you when you tell them you are going to go into business for yourself. That alone can make it a hard and lonely journey. So it is important to surround yourself with people that support your vision. I learned those that I can share my dreams with and those that I have tailor it down for. As sad as it sounds, it’s important to protect your dreams so they are not crushed by others.
I came from a single parent household and I saw the daily struggle that my mom went through for her family. She departed this earth when I was a pre-teen but her legacy lives through me everyday. My business and my story is her legacy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE seafood! There are many restaurants in DFW to eat good seafood but my favorite is Eddie V’s off Oaklawn! So good! We may also head to a comedy show at the Improv and then cap the night at Whiskey’s. Legacy West in Plano or Grandscape in the Colony are also some of my favorites places to visit with plenty of shopping, dining and fun activities.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my friends and family who pumped me up from the beginning to just go for it! My sister, DeChannel, is my biggest fan and I would be remiss not to give her a shoutout. My boyfriend, Kenny, is always in my corner and challenging me to do my best. My clients of course who believed in me and trusted me to help them with their largest asset. Also, in the real estate field, there is a lot of competition between agents but I would like to give thanks to those who started before me and continue to pour into me to help me grow to their level. Sheylna Tinglin, Tenesha Lusk, Ray Meeks, Rosemary Lewis, Chauncey Pham and many more! I am forever grateful.
