We had the good fortune of connecting with Debbie Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Debbie, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Originally, I’m from South West Louisiana, home to some of the world’s finest comfort foods. From the time I could see over the stove, you could find me stirring a pot of roux, or chopping up the traditional seasoning of the south – onion, celery, and bell pepper – also known as the trinity. I cooked side by side with my Mother and, while very young, I took responsibility for the family’s meals. Growing up southern meant that cooking was a part of everyday life. I was the oldest girl in the family so naturally I was my Mama’s right hand in the kitchen. Needless to say, I learned a thing or two about cooking. After meal time or just any ole time my Mama would put on a pot of coffee and we would sit around the kitchen table and visit for a while. When I was a young girl my coffee was more milk than coffee also known as “Coffee Milk” in our family. You’d be amazed what you can learn sitting around the kitchen table. I encourage you to bring back sharing a meal with your family at the kitchen table and see what you learn. *Right hand in the kitchen – simply put you were a Sous-chef or a Sous-chef in training. What I learned in the kitchen was how food made people feel, it became a way of connecting food in our home meant welcoming someone in, that’s how we extended our hospitality. Hospitality became the legacy that was passed down through generations in our family. Today I package all of the hospitality, memories and kitchen table connections in my homemade jam collection.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
From 8 AM-5 PM, I am an interior designer. I truly believe that your home reflects the way you feel. My favorite room in any home is always the “Kitchen” From 5 PM -9PM I get to spread my wings and focus on my little jam boutique. I’ve created a line of homemade jams that are a must have for any home. My jams are made with fresh fruit, pure cane sugar, natural citric acid, and without commercial pectin. What I believe sets my homemade jam apart from others is the simplicity of taste and name reconnection, if the jar says Peach Cobbler – that is exactly what you will get when you open the jar it really taste like peach cobbler! You get the picture, right? I am truly excited when folks taste my jam, I love seeing the look on their faces and hearing hearing the comments It was not easy but, it certainly is worth it. When I get home from working my day job, I jump in my kitchen at 7 PM that’s my start time, my stop time is up to me. However, consistency is and always be the key to success! Some of the challenges have been getting jam jars especially during this pandemic. I have had to switch jars several times, which meant switching labeling. Fortunately I have a sister/friend that is a graphic artist and she is always in the trenches with me creating labels, gift boxes and, all other printed matter materials. Thank you Ida Rembert for your gifts! I want the world to know that when you receive a jar or Debbie Lynn’s Homemade Jam you have been prayed for – it’s just that simple. When I am in the kitchen creating jams, there are no distractions – TV, radio etc. I am in a zone it is important for me to feel that I am putting out a product that will be a blessing to whom ever touches it. I want to somehow draw folks back to the kitchen table where memories are made, manners are taught and relationships are cultivated My homemade jam collection is listed below. • Peach Cobbler Peach Cobbler jam is made with fresh ripe peaches, a dash of cinnamon, vanilla bean and a few other simple ingredients for a yummy spread that taste just like peach cobbler • Apple Pie Apple Pie jam is just like a good apple pie filling, but in a jam form. If you love apple pie this jam is for you! • Strawberry-Lemonade Strawberry lemonade is a classic strawberry jam with a lemony twist • Mixed Berry Mixed Berry is a blend of blueberries, strawberries, apples and fresh orange juice • Christmas Blend Christmas Blend is a unique blend of cranberries, strawberries, orange zest and a hint of cinnamon • Pineapple-Jalapeno A sweet yet savory blend of pineapples and a hint of jalapeno peppers • Strawberry Merlot A rich blend of strawberries and Merlot

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First I would have to start with my “kitchen Table” – I really do make some of the best buttermilk biscuits and shrimp and grits in town! If I do say so myself. Dallas Arboretum and botanical garden – Christmas Tea and tour or the 12 days of Christmas Pappadeaux’s seafood kitchen – not too pricey great place to eat southern meals visit with some Dallas locals cracker Barrel Old Country Store – great pecan pancakes. The joule hotel – for lunch right in the heart of Dallas.- Klyde Warren Park – its unique the way it sits over a freeway.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business was born out of a need to comfort myself after the passing of my dear sweet Mother. She is always the wind beneath my wings when I am in the kitchen. Her name was – Joan Gauthreaux
