We had the good fortune of connecting with DaShaun Marshall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DaShaun, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from the Westside of Chicago IL, and my background wasn’t like most kids growing up. My upbringing was very confusing for many reasons. My mother worked several jobs to support herself and me. When my sister was born more responsibilities fell on her including myself. The thought of being an only child was all I knew, and I didn’t like the fact that it was over once my sister was born. I adjusted quickly at a young age and my childhood went drastically by me. I was Peter Parker growing up in the rough ends of my neighborhood, and getting jumped up daily was a survival instinct. I had 2 fathers in my life who taught me and showed me things I didn’t understand at a young age. I thank them both today because it’s made me who I am, and I firmly know the path I want to go in life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art or Creativity is special. I’m not just a comedian because that’s putting me in a one stop category when I’m gifted and blessed with many talents. I love to Act, Sing, Dance, do Voice Impressions, Model, play snare drums, play sports, gymnastics, and go nature exploring. I’m simply an Entertainer with a heart of gold that many fail to recognize. What sets me apart from others is my life story is unlike any other with sadness but perseverance of what can happen when you continue to believe in yourself. A proud moment to me is when I’m faced with a difficult task that merely makes me cry and wanna quit on something that took me years to accomplish. Thus right when I’m ready to throw in the towel, that’s why I WIN and I thank myself or my supporters (whom ever they are) for not allowing me to quit on myself. I got to where I am today, simply because I said “Fuck It” to everyone who doubted me, and said I wouldn’t make it in life. I wouldn’t amount out to nothing and Im going to be a failure. But they all can go to Hell with gasoline draws on. No it wasn’t easy. Nothing ever is, and if it is then it’s going to be easy to loose. One of the lessons I’ve learned is stay FOCUSED, & DISCIPLINED. It’s normal and easy to get sidetracked because theirs so many distractions in the world that one can loose sight temporarily if he/she isn’t tunnel vision. I’m a victim of this and it’s hard and difficult to stay the course when temptation is lurking around every corner. It can be with money, jewelry, clothes, women, parties, traveling , animals, or even churches. All these things play a major role in my life and I have to stand firm and stay mind strong on what’s important to me and what I want from this life. I was also told in high school in my year book that under my picture and name that I was most likely not to succeed in life. That was the biggest MOTIVATION EVER!! It hurt my soul and I wanted to do bodily harm to myself because I felt nobody in my high school saw my real potential or me as a person with a heart of gold. That has been my #1 Motivation to my strive toward SUCCESS as a young attractive brown skinned male. I want the world to know tot can accomplish any task or situation in life when you put God first and the rest of your success will be added unto you when your ready to accept it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the roof of a high building and show them a view of the city. I always enjoy seeing a city from high and far places. It gives me a spiritual in-site of the world from an Eagles view on things. I would take my people to adventurous places like golf, roller coasters, theme parks, food trucks, anime festivals, or tv shows to be paid for tv appearances. To eat or drink I would take them to the whole I’m the wall locations where they best drinks that are affordable will be amazing and tasty. The food will be fulfilling and seasoned. America’s playground aka Vegas is a city where you can have fun anywhere with the right people or person. I’m that PERSON but I’m fun with limitations to ensure one’s safety but you’ll have a blast with me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of my hobbies is reading. Depending on what mood I’m in I’ll forget what time and day it is sometimes. One of my favorite books “Choice Theory, by William Glasser. He talks about a form of Psychology of personal Freedom from the world and your mind itself. Another book I enjoy is called “Outliers”by Malcolm Gladwell who gives the word of SUCCESS a whole New Meaning in what defiance means. Lastly another favorite book of mines is “the Art of Talking to Anyone” by Rosalie Maggie. It’s amazing how learning the power of conversation can open up many doors for anyone when you understand the energy of the universe. Growing up I joined after school programs called Gallery 37th where kids can finish homework and play sports or crafts until our guardians came to get us. I enjoyed programs like these because they molded my childhood and it was fun being a kid again in a teenager body. My grammar school days are unforgettable and were amazing say the least. But my high school years were torture. I didn’t fit it in many programs because I was different on how I talked and carried myself. I got jumped, beat up, shot at by BB guns, chased home by raccoons and squirrels. Cheerleaders boyfriends beat me up because I refused to help their girlfriend with their assignments. Like my total 4yrs of High School also really played a major part of who I am also today.
