We had the good fortune of connecting with Daryl Mayfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daryl, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to make something for myself that was truly mine. Working in corporate America creates a dependence mentality on an employer to provide a paycheck and benefits in return for significant restraints on your time, and sometimes, mental health. I don’t won’t my job to be just a means to finance my life. I wanted a career that I truly loved doing, but also provides me freedom with my time and especially with my family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been working as a voice actor for 7 years. My primary genre is audiobook narration. I believe what sets me apart is my use of diverse character voices and temperaments. I love a diverse cast of characters in a story, and all the ways they interact. It’s also helped me branch into video games and animation.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day one:

We would go out Grandscape in The Colony and go go-carting at Andretti’s. We’d take a small excursion to the shops at legacy and grab lunch at True Food Kitchen. Circle back to grandscape and grab some drinks at the red phone booth speakeasy.

Day two:

Explore Main Street in Downtown Grapevine. We’d enjoy the food and the wineries

Day three:

Take it easy go for a drive through Southlake and look at some of the amazing houses out there.

Day four::

Check out The Sound in Coppell and eat some ramen while enjoying a concert at the amphitheater.

Day five:

Have an outdoor adventure on Katy Trail

Day six:

Go to the farmers market in Coppell and hit up Hard Eights BBQ for dinner.

Day seven:

Go grab some food and play pickle ball at Chicken and Pickle.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to all my fellow VO peeps I’ve met over the years who have helped me learn and grow in my craft. And big thanks to Jason Lord and Crunchyroll for giving me my shot in the anime.
