Meet Darrell Thomas | Photographer/Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Darrell Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darrell, how does your business help the community?
Flashpoint productions helps tell people’s story. Our vision at Flashpoint is to use story telling in each of our projects whether it be a documentary, wedding, short film, or even a photoshoot to shine a light on our clients. We want to give everyone a chance for their voice to be heard.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art has always been an extension of myself or a story that I see, even in high school I was making videos of my friends and I documenting our lives. What that turned into in college was me realizing my love for story telling and learning how to make it cinematic. It wasn’t easy or pretty, it took a lot of learning and a few rough projects but with dedication I’ve grown and now have even co-founded a production company to continue creating cinematic visuals. I’ve learned along this process that it takes time to tell a story, you can’t rush it or simply throw it together. Details, cohesiveness, and the right angle are all keys to creating the perfect story but those things can’t be rushed. They must be found and studied so you can properly portray the story to the audience. I want people to know that Flashpoint Productions is not just a production company, it’s a movement to give people a voice.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend coming out here I would take them on the best tour of Dallas, we would head out to deep ellum first and take them to some of the shorts and vintage spots to go shopping. After that definitely out for some street tacos for lunch at tacos y mas. That afternoon we could go through downtown to some great photo spots and take pictures in the city and that going into the night head to a rooftop lounge and relax. Other things we’d do throughout the week would be the museum, the arboretum, and even some jazz spots where you can listen to Music and just hang out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely credit my mom and dad. They’ve always believed in my dream and always pushed me to create the best art I could. They were there for me when I started with nothing and saw me grow to where I am now.
