We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danny, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor would be the level of success the majority of our students attain.
They represent the brand and testify to the level of training our school provides.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bladesmith Barber College is a barber school in Denton, TX where students attend to learn the skills and professionalism necessary to excel as professional barbers. We also provide low-cost, quality haircuts to our clients. We have diverse students from all walks of life who have graduated, become licensed and are succeeding in shops, suites, or in their homes.
When I started off as a Barber, I was consistent and focused on providing customer service and quality haircuts. I became a shop owner early in my career, which led me to teaching and training new Barbers hired to work in my shop. Through that process, I discovered a passion for teaching. I went back to school to obtain my Instructors license. It was not easy going back to school while working and having a family. I overcame the challenge by adjusting my work hours to accommodate school and focusing on the reward I believed would come once I was able to finish school and open a Barber School. I learned that sacrifice is inevitable when working towards your dreams.
I am most proud of the success of the graduates. I want others to know that the brand is family owned, the curriculum implementation is advanced, and the instructors are not only licensed barbers, but also shop owners, so the level of expertise is also advanced.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friend to several of my favorite restaurants, such as Baja Mexican Grille and Hoffbrau Steaks. We would attend church services at Cross Church Denton. We would hang out at North Texas Cutz and possibly catch a show at the Improv.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my wife, Charnei Smith, who is the person behind the scenes supporting me and allowing me to work hard for our students. Artiz Stroud and Prime Blankenship for teaching me how to be intentional with people. They taught me how to care more about the soul of a person rather than just outward appearance. Mr. & Mrs. Frasure who has and still mentors me. They have set the standard of what professionalism should be in this barber industry and have been there to help whenever I’ve needed them.
