We had the good fortune of connecting with Dannielle Hoener and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dannielle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my business I had just become a stay at home mom and quit my full time job to raise my daughter. I wanted something to do, I am a very busy body so just being home wasn’t enough for me. Of course wanting to contribute financially was a part of it, but I never thought it would be making me more then my full time job did with in the first 6 months. I was talking to my husband about what I would do once the kids were both in school full time, and not even two weeks later we were given the opportunity to buy the inventory and take over the lease of a store front. I said yes before he did, but after some convincing he was ready to jump in. We took over the store when I was 35 weeks pregnant with our son. He was 9 days old at our grand opening and has probably spent just as much time in the store as he has at home since he was born. Having a career I can still be present in my kids life is my number one reason for doing what I do. It started off as bows for girls, within a year it turned into clothes for all kids, and now three years later I am a full blown boutique with kids, womens, and mens items with a store front!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to think Rocking H Boutique is different from other boutiques because we are so family oriented and a one stop shop! I strive to find items for the littles, your mom, husband, and yourself! We have a little bit of something for everyone! We also offer vintage items from Lux Cowboy in store.
I am most proud of the following and community I have been able to create on social media, and now in store for other moms, ranch wives, and people that love western fashion!
Nothing is easy, you just have to pick your hard. I am very blessed to have pretty simple challenges to overcome over the last 3 years. Nothing a good cry and hard work can’t fix! I have learned patience and that your plan is not always god’s plan, so it will not go the way you think it will, but you will come out better and bigger then you were before. I want the world to know that every interaction, sale, relationship, and conversation my business has brought me I am beyond grateful for.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of course the first stop would be Rocking H Boutique! Next door is Blue Dog Wine Co. the BEST local wine in linn county! We would get our morning coffee at Black Elk Coffee located in lacygne, ks to get my favorite latte. We would definitely enjoy a facial or full body treatment by Butter Skin Therapy in Pleasanton ks.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to show credit to my husband who has supported all of my crazy ideas and has been hand and hand with me every step. I also would like to thank my kids for being my reason to keep pushing even in the hard times. Also a huge shoutout to Daelin Bright, she was my first employee and has helped me in more ways then normal employees do, Rocking H would not be where it is without her, she is also the owner of Lux Cowboy which we have in store.
