We had the good fortune of connecting with Danita White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danita, why did you pursue a creative career?
For the longest time, I had no idea what I wanted to do career-wise. But I’ve always been captivated by stories, and I think that has been the guiding force in my current work of social media management and content creation. After dabbling on and off in it for a couple of years, I decided to pursue it full-time because the creative opportunities and artistic possibilities are endless.
I aim to help purpose-driven entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations tell their stories via social media with creativity and passion. Individuals in these spaces are doing meaningful work, but a lot of times, hopping on a trending TikTok meme or creating an Instagram Reel is the last thing on their to-do list because their time and focus is needed elsewhere.
Social media, however, is where the people are. It’s where special connections are happening. It’s where stories are being told every day. And they’re being told in every way – through written words, photos, music, video, and more. I love all those things, and being able to create and provide value, while remaining flexible and continuously learning, is why I finally decided to pursue a career in social media and digital marketing.
Being able to do work that 1) I’m passionate about, 2) is always changing, and 3) brings me joy and autonomy, are factors that are important to me.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
wema creatives is a social media storytelling space that I started to help purpose-driven entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations tell their stories.
Oftentimes, when a business is launched or a nonprofit is being led, few individuals are thinking of what trending meme they can share on Instagram to showcase what they do. Instead, they’re thinking of how their products can be profitable, who they should hire for their team, and how their work can improve a local community.
Social media, however, is where small businesses and nonprofits can shine bright. Not only is it an opportunity for them to reach their target audience, but it is an opportunity for them to tell their story. To share their why. To personally connect with hundreds in a way they could never do IRL.
The power of social media storytelling should not be underestimated. But it takes time, and it can be stressful. That’s why wema creatives exists.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have lived in Texas for the majority of my life and I love our great state! The Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex has so many great communities full of places to visit and things to do. Wherever I’m at, my favorite things to do are eat and drink! I love trying new restaurants every time I go out, but a few that I have on repeat are Restaurant506 (Arlington), Ddong Ggo TX (Carrollton), Crown Block, Taqueria La Ventana, The Tipsy Alchemist (Dallas), Via Real (Irving), Duino Coffee, Layered (McKinney), and Honey Berry (Plano).
I also enjoy nature and being in the great outdoors, so if you’re hanging with me, we’ll be outside at some point. River Legacy Park (Arlington), Cedar Hill State Park (Cedar Hill), Cedar Ridge Preserve (Dallas), Eisenhower State Park (Denison), and Ridgepointe Park Shoreline Trail (The Colony) are some of my favorite places to hike.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my older sister, Meriqua Daniella “Danni” White, who actually introduced me to the series! She is an incredible writer, marketer, and business woman. Her work ethic and consistency are next level, and she has influenced me to pursue better for myself and for others.
