We had the good fortune of connecting with Danica Carson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danica, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Hack Decks™ actually came about from another business I run with my partner called The Uncluttered Life®. It’s a professional organizing business. We have extensive training and experience, and partner with Inspired Closets DFW to create beautiful and functional organized spaces for our clients. All that to say, we know what we’re talking about when it comes to decluttering. We created our flagship product, Declutter Deck®, as a tool for our organizing clients.
After seeing the response we got to Declutter Deck®, we decided to establish a brand and expand the line. The name Hack Decks™ comes from the idea that each deck is a life-hack in a box for various topics.
When researching topics for the decks, we focused on themes and topics that can cause stress or anxiety. We really wanted the decks to be not only fun, but serve a greater purpose. So, every deck includes prompts that address mental health and happiness. Ultimately, we really want our decks to make a difference in the lives of our customers beyond just having fun or saving time and energy. Our product line now consists of five different decks: Date Deck™, Declutter Deck®, Dorm Deck™, New Mama Deck™, and Random Acts of Kindness Deck™. Each of the decks are packed with life hacks, tips, tricks, or proactive prompts to help the user thrive in regards to the theme.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hack Decks™ is a women-owned business, dedicated to helping people connect to themselves and others. Hack Decks™ was founded on the belief that it is our responsibility to empower the next generation, and give them the tools we wish we would have had, especially the insight and perspective gained through trial and error or experience.
There is a difference between information and knowledge. People are inundated with information from every direction. But, information without experience and wisdom can be useless. Rather than trying to google your way through life, why not benefit from the experience and knowledge of countless people who have been through the same thing?
We developed Hack Decks™ because we saw a need for a product that imparted wisdom, rather than information. Each prompt was carefully distilled from the wisdom and experience of those who have learned the hard way. This allows users to create happy and healthy lives, maximize free time and minimize the struggles and pressures of various stages of life.
Each deck is designed to empower the user to act on their own behalf, or on behalf of others, in simple but powerful ways. Hack Decks™ are packed with prompts to help the user thrive, improve their mental health, and be present.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite places to take friends and family that come to visit are the Fort Worth Stockyards and Bishop Arts District in Dallas for some Texas culture. I also love to take people with kids to the Perot Museum and Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. They do such a great job! We spend a lot of time at both museums with or without visitors.
When we keep things local, in Arlington, I love to take people to Hurtado BBQ and the River Legacy Nature Center. Both are family favorites!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The driving force behind any success I’ve ever had has been my family. My mom has always encouraged, supported and facilitated me in pursuing my dreams, which is why we run this business together.
Of course, my husband and son are also my biggest advocates and cheerleaders! My husband always keeps me looking at the positive and moving forward. My son, 3, is wildly encouraging, which really pushes me to keep going and growing.
