We had the good fortune of connecting with DABNEY POORTER and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DABNEY, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

I came to the decision to start my own business due to my own personal health journey. I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes in December 2013. As I began seeking treatment for my new diagnosis, I found there was a lack of individualized care and education. My goal in starting my own businesses was to treat the individual first with the foundation being preventative and root cause analysis and therapies.

What should our readers know about your business?

I am most excited and proud that I get to live out my passion every day. My heart’s desire is to provide individualized, root cause medical care to my patients. I get to help others feel better, optimize their health, and ultimate prevent other illness.

My business journey has not been easy. Through hard work, dedication, and partnership with like-minded experts, I have been able to achieve and continue to pursue my goals. I have learned many things, but two I feel are most important. One it is important to acknowledge your weaknesses and empower those around you to fulfill those voids. Two being present and genuinely engaged with your patients, employees, and colleagues is paramount to success.

We are medically minded and functionally focused. What does that mean? We offer primary care medicine for the whole family that emphasizes prevention of illness through education, nutrition, and lifestyle. Our team of providers have the skills and knowledge to treat acute and chronic illnesses. In addition we have nutrition and health coach specialists to help with further education and nutrition and lifestyle change. All of our care and treatment begins with seeing the patient as an individual.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

In my mind the best vacations begin with amazing cuisine and self-care. I would begin with a walk on the Trinity River followed by brunch at Press Cafe. We would make our way over to Restore and Revive Wellness Center for an infrared sauna and ionic foot soak. Dinner at Clay Pigeon. One of my favorite destinations for lodging is the beautifully curated Bowie House or quintessential Drover Hotel. Day two we would most definitely shop my favorite local boutiques: Bette’s, Hale House, You Are Here, Stanley Eisenman Shoes, The Local, Brooke Wright, and Birdie. Finishing with custom boots at the best in the business, M.L. Leddy’s. Other favorite activities include a walk through Botanic Garden or gazing in awe at the artwork at the Kimbell Art Museum. Also don’t miss getting to cheer on the Frogs at a TCU sporting event!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

My family deserves the most recognition. From the role modeling of my grandparents and father, who have been successful business owners, to my mom, husband, and daughters who provide endless love, prayers, and support, I am beyond blessed and grateful.
