We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Lockett-Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Over the course of my career as a Licensed Therapist & Parent Coach, I kept hearing the consistent message from teens and their parents that they don’t understand one another and they often had issues connecting and relating to one another without friction. So I decided to tailor my business to bring back the joy in parenting especially during the tween and teen phase.

What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my business is called Crystal’s Constructive Corner where I provide constructive feedback and insight in order to build others and the relationships that are most important to them. Specifically, through coaching, I help Christian parents of tweens/teens build tangible skills so they can stop the chaos to not only love their kids but LIKE them as well. Yes, even I recognize that there are days when parents don’t like their teens due to attitudes, conflict, and lack of connection. I pride myself on being the bridge for them in order to build the connection with one another that they so deserve. In my coaching services, I help parents go from exhausted to empowered by helping them gain tangible skills to successfully navigate the teen stage. One thing that I have learned as a Therapist and Coach is that we often have an obligation to transform the parts of people’s lives where they feel the most helpless and vulnerable. I approach this delicate situation by being a resource, sounding board, and strategist to get them out of the quicksand that they feel they are in. I’m a down-to-earth Chicago girl who want my clients to win and that definitely shows up in my approach! I absolutely love networking and being socially active for business so I feel that has helped me get to where I am today. I love a good meeting or an event honey!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OOOH this is tough but I’m gonna go with my top faves: 1. The best BBQ in the area is Hutchins BBQ in Mckinney (especially the brisket, whewwww!)
2. The Dallas Arboretum is so peaceful and relaxing so that’s a definite must visit
3. Klyde Warren Food Trucks-that way you can get a little taste of everything and still have fun in the park
4. Sam Moon in Frisco for all of my jewelry, purse, accessory lovers (my family swears by that place when they come into town!)
5. Anything in Deep Ellum

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
OMG this is soooo hard!!! There are so many people who have made an impact in my life but also my career. I’ll first start by shouting out my Mom, Carolyn Lockett. She ALWAYS supports my ideas and helps me brainstorm even if the idea is still in the infant stage and she’ll also hold me accountable which we all need in life right?! The next person I would shoutout is one of my Psychology Professors from my undergrad program, Dr. Irene Gianakos. She helped to spark the passion and love of helping us understand one another as human beings that you see within me today. I always loved attending her classes and her encouragement!
