We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Noelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, what matters most to you?
The presence of integrity in someone’s motives, actions and/or intentions shows an unyielding commitment to an ethical way of life by demonstrating accountability to “doing what is right-which may not always be easy. Integrity reveals the essence of an individual. And the absence of this character attribute can foster a world full of injustice from micro and macro means- which is what I desire to see reformed in the days to come.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For many years in my youth I had an addiction to pornography. This laid a poor foundation for how I used to objectify bodies as a vehicle for my own pleasure rather than seeing humans with dignity as image bearers of God. Years later, I heard a song that introduced me to what a relationship with God can look like. It was practical and accessible and as a byproduct it later inspired me to create music in order to replicate this experience. I seek to live my life as a catalyst for someone to experience the profound love of God. I desire my music to communicate this beauty of the Gospel. In doing so, I yearn to open an avenue for the rise of non traditional- faith based R&B music that steps outside the binary without compromising the integrity of the Gospel.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I envision sunny drives with the roof down and listening to artists like: Sade, Johnny Guitar Watson, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Sly and Family Stone, and more. Also, a picnic with an impromptu photoshoot in the park and a paint and sip. And conclude the weekend at Sandaga 813 Jazz and Blues Club.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many people adore those closest to them because they celebrate their accomplishments as if it were their own, which my inner circle does, however my intermediate family and close friends stand out uniquely because they love me in truth by holding me accountable to pursuing a purpose driven life.
