We had the good fortune of connecting with Connor May Niko and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Connor May, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Life of Love USA Connor, May, and Niko
Creators, Designers, Artists
Many people have told us that it would be nearly impossible to make a living through clothes or that our clothing won’t go anywhere but we’ve personally seen the power of networking and we know where our brand can go. Having a vision and bringing that vision to life is a unique and rare feeling and it really pushes us to go harder and take risks. We started doing this in the office at the house in 2018 and now we’ve had our clothes worn by big name celebrities and have had opportunities to be shown in magazines. There’s no limit to what I feel this company can do so it’s all worth the risk at the end of the day, plus everyone knows: the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward…
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Life of Love is special because our message is in direct contrast of most of what’s going on around us today. From controversial politics, to war, to racism and police violence, the pandemic and economic issues. There’s just a lot of tension that people have to deal with daily. We are trying to show people that Love is still out there everywhere and you don’t need to meet any sort of requirements to find it. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or how you look or how much money you have. We can all live a Life of Love. We say this a lot because it’s true: something we know makes us different is the contrast between our product and the normal customer who wears it. If you look at the pictures on our Instagram or on the website, you’ll see a lot of bright colors, a lot of designs that pop out and catch your eye, lots of sparkles and flashes, but then look at who’s wearing it. It’s someone who’s more alternative, more grunge with their aesthetic, wearing chickens and all black or it’s a someone who’s usually specific about their style: a drill rapper or the leader of a punk band. It’s so fun to see. This artist 214 November with face tats and diamond chains wearing a pink and sparkling hoodie and rocking the biggest smile in the room. It strengthens or resolve. We know Life of Love is for everyone! We’re so proud of our journey to the place. It has definitely not been easy. There’s been times where we are losing money rather than making it just grinding trying to make sure we get all the orders fulfilled or the next collection out. Driving back and forward at all hours of the night, editing pictures and finishing designs until our eyes hurt, making errors and having to redo things. It hasn’t been handed to us and we wouldn’t want it that way. We’ve learned that hard work pays off and that there’s a tremendous power in staying consistent and believing in ourself. We’ve learned to trust in the people close to you. It doesn’t matter if there apart of your creative processes or not, you’d be surprised how someone can help or provide a new perspective. Ask for help! Don’t be ashamed to ask for help. It’s honestly fun to get people involved. It makes the end result more meaningful when you can see all the hands that took a part in building the outcome. Ultimately, we want the world to know that there are still some really creative independent artist who are creating something with Love and attention. We are trying to release good, positive energy into the universe with every thing we do. We want people to see our products and to see what we’re up to and to feel the Love, to feel the sense of community. Maybe they’ll buy a shirt and it’ll give them the confidence to talk to that special someone they’ve been to nervous to approach, or to go out and try something new. We just want people to live a Life of Love!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We might know a little something about this. We’d use the daytime to take a tour of the museums downtown, we love the Dallas Arts Museum and the Perot. The science museum is amazing to and no we are not to old for it!
Before/During/After all of this we will be checking off trademark food spots! Definitely going to Rudy’s! Can’t leave Dallas without Rudy’s! We’d hit the Bistro B whenever we stop by the Galleria to get some drip and if they’re from out of state, we’re going to get some Tex-Mex! Either some Christina’s or one of our favorite spots, Vidorra. We also love sports so we got to go see Luka and the Mavs. At night we’re taking you to Deep Ellum where we can bar crawl down main street! We’ll definitely head over to our studio and show you where we make the clothes and do the shoots! There’s so much to do in Dallas! Literally every night we see an event going down in the city. The city at night is the absolute best!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For us, we want to give a big shoutout to all the people that have been with us from the start. Who have always believed and supported us. Connor’s dad Frank for letting us use his studio back in the day and for giving us tips and advice that most people have to pay for. To all the models that have come to the shoots for the new drops and didn’t ask for a penny but instead were just there to be apart of something. To 214 November for basically making Life of Love his go to clothing brand and for rocking the clothes all the time! To Yosh, Kenshin, a big s/o to Jordan Murray for being with the team from the jump and for being the first NFL player to rock Life of Love, Brock, to Alex and Handmade for putting Life Of Love on the cover of there magazine, Seek Valeur, and the SOS Militia, and to the local artist scene in Dallas, and to you guys for this opportunity!
