Meet Colin Boyd | Musician & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Colin Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Colin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I just always aspired to be a musician, and the eventual result is: you’re in business for yourself. So it gradually happened. Eventually you start making enough money that you need to include it in your taxes and you just adjust. All of the sudden it’s a business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I write songs that i enjoy. I feel like it takes a lot of effort to create something yourself, that you’ll enjoy listening to. Because the artist is usually their own hardest critic. To create and still get past that really takes some time. I write messages that I’d like to hear, and that others could identify with … i think. Sometimes writing takes the form of an imaginary conversation in one’s head. Maybe with someone else. Maybe with yourself. If you find yourself thinking back on a conversation or an encounter, and you think “what i SHOULD have said was …”, you may be writing a song.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take folks to St Petes Dancing Marlin and AllGood Cafe, both in Deep Ellum. Two of my favorite restaurants. I would take a bike ride down to Continental Street Bridge park and then back to Klyde Warren park. Running or biking around White Rock is always awesome. I’d take them down to Bishop Arts and some of the patios and clubs. For Mexican food I’d go to Rio Bravo and/or Taqueria Cristina.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ll dedicate my Shoutout to Terence Slemmons of Slemmons Music Services. his shop is one of the preeminent professional music equipment repair shops in Dallas, Texas (214-747-1090). Terence is also one of my best friends and best supporters, having played in many of my bands and produced my records … basically just supported my music.
Also a Shoutout to Pete Zotos of St Pete’s Dancing Marlin, where I’ve played music off and on since the 1990s, and a Shoutout to Mike Snider of AllGood Cafe, where I’ve recently been playing with my band.
And a Shoutout to anyone who’s been a fan, friend, and supported my music ambition.
