We had the good fortune of connecting with Clinton Asalu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Clinton, what do you attribute your success to?
I feel that your success is tied to your work ethic and the network around you. That said, the most important factor to my success is my relationship with God. Before I began my real estate journey, my father spoke to me and said, “It does not matter what advertising or content creation you do, if God does not advertise you, you will not be successful.” This is what I hold on to. I have had the pleasure of helping countless young professionals and families to find their first or next home. Most of which I have met through referrals or my church, Social Dallas. I do not believe I do anything special, but what I do know is that I treat every client as if they are my brother or sister. I look out for them as though they are my own siblings. My success is tied to my ability to garden the relationship and people God has brought into my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting into real estate is something that I have always wanted to do and my testimony on how I ventured into this space is one I will share with anyone that will listen. I have a gift for connecting with people. And honestly, if I told you I would impact this many lives, I would not believe you. I started my real estate career on January 1, 2022. What a way to enter the new year! It was hard. We were in a very hot seller’s market. Interest rates were still at 3-4% but I did not know anyone looking to sell or buy a home. Someone told me prior that I should be grateful if I even closed 3-4 transactions in a year as a young agent. I set a goal for myself for 6 transactions and by the grace of God, I shattered that with 16 closed transactions in my first year.
I overcame obstacles because I trusted God. I leaned into what I knew best and that was just being me. People trusted my character and referred out-of-state clients to me based on who they knew me to be. This is why being good to everyone is important. I moved to Dallas in August 2021 and my first client came from a friend I knew from back in Philadelphia who simply saw my Intro to Real Estate post and referred their friend to me. Do not underestimate the power of relationships.
My brand is based on treating people like I treat my family. Treating them with love, patience, and kindness.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re visiting Dallas, you are most likely going to fall in love with the city and move here. On Sundays, you have to stop by Dahlia on Ross or Smithy on Henderson for brunch. You will be fully satisfied. Any day of the week go check out Chef Taste Budz at Taco City (600 Jackson Street) for the best Birria Tacos you will ever have. If you want fine dining and great vibes, head to Carbone and get the Lobster Ravioli, it will not disappoint. Dallas has a mix of everything. You can head over to Legacy West for some shopping and eats or get a Beef Rib at Terry Black’s that will put you to sleep after. If you want to get some Nigerian food, which is my favorite, you can head to Kemi’s Kitchen or Lola’s Restaurant and Lounge. They will treat you like family.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to all the amazing clients-turned-friends that have trusted me in growing my real estate career. It is not a small feat to purchase a home. So, their willingness to trust me is not taken for granted.
