We had the good fortune of connecting with Clarissa Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Clarissa, what’s your definition for success?
When it comes to success. In my opinion, the definition of success varies from person to person. However, for me, success is attained by accomplishing goals, whether they are big or small. To provide an example, one way to measure success is by starting each day with the task of making my bed. Therefore, if the sole achievement of the day was the act of making my bed, then that day can still be considered successful. A greater example of great success in my life is the successful attainment of my degrees.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my business is Brown Bird Butterfly. The name carries a deep meaning that reflects my family and me. My last name is Brown. Honoring my father is one of the reasons why Brown is apart of the business name. Bird is my Grandma Bird name, who was proud of her Native American heritage. I have always loved butterflies. I believe they symbolize beauty and growth. Butterflies inspire me to reflect on my own journey of beauty and personal growth. I believe each individual possesses the capacity to develop and thrive, much like butterflies. My purpose is to assist people on their journey towards personal growth and to flourish while on their journey. What sets me apart from others is my background. I have several degrees, certifications, and yoga experience. Another reason that sets me apart is my dedication to guiding both men and women on their yoga journey. The key aspects I prioritize in my teaching are self-love, the art of letting go, and expressing gratitude. I am most proud of having two successful yoga retreats. I got where I am today with my business by having small and big goals. However, I overcame challenges because of my mindset of never giving up and focusing on my goals, having an amazing support system, and having self-motivation. The lessons I learned along the way. When things get tough, regroup and keep going. Be flexible and open or you will break. Do not get upset when family and friends do not support you. There is a whole community waiting for you. There will be people who will be jealous of your successful. Keep going anyway. I want the world to know that Brown Bird Butterfly Inc is for everybody and the skill that you will learn from teachings are lifetime skills.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My parents deserve a shoutout for being there for me every step of the way. They have shaped me into the person I am today. My heart overflows with gratitude towards my parents. Without them, there would be no me.

In addition, it is important for me to express my gratitude to both sets of my grandparents for their continuous belief in me. They never gave up on me. They always knew that I would be successful. I have followed in the footsteps of my grandpa, John, and became a business owner. However, only one of my grandparents had the opportunity to witness my success, which is my Big Momma. In spirit, my other three grandparents act as my Guardian Angels.
