We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy McGhee, CPA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Launching NextGen was arguably one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I was comfortably working as a consultant for a large firm, and the work came easy to me. Choosing to launch a startup meant giving up what was easy to do the work I felt called to do. When struggling with that choice I came to realize that pursuing purpose was way more important than choosing my comfort. Serving underestimated founders as they made that same journey from their comfort zone to their purpose was the work I knew I was supposed to do. While it hasn’t been an easy journey, I’ve learned to get comfortable in the uncomfortable and choose the pursue purpose every step of the way.

What should our readers know about your business?
At NextGen, we’re passionate about helping driven, visionary business owners and entrepreneurs reach their next level. We want to create a long-term, relationship-based partnership that educates you and equips you to reach your business and personal goals.

Our team of empire-building experts have years of knowledge in their field, as well as solid, consistent experience working with businesses that are on a trajectory for greater growth. We work hard to get to know you, your family, and your company so that we can be a true partner to you as you grow your business and strive for your future goals.

We’re most excited about the impact we’ve had on entrepreneurs who are working to grow their business. We take pride in being an ally for our clients, and that work has allowed us to play a role in business owners growing exponentially. This work has caused clients to dub us the “empire building experts.” We’ve earned that title by moving beyond transactional services and acting as a true advisor and ally for our clients.

We are far from the typical CPA firm and we know our approach moves the needle for our clients in a meaningful way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A visit to Tulsa, OK is one that will leave a lasting impact on any visitor. Your visit would start with a trip to the Greenwood Rising History Center located in the historic Greenwood District and home to Black Wall Street. There you’d learn the history of tragedy and resilience stemming from the event of the 1921 Race Massacre. From there I’d take the walking tour through the district to experience the history of our city. Then take a short drive to the Gathering Place, the nation’s most expansive public park and a top rated national destination since its inception in 2018. You’ll enjoy lunch from local food trucks found on site. You can close out your day with a visit to Guthrie Green for some live local music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out Team NextGen! As the founder, I am the face of the company, but the real MVP is the amazing team that makes NextGen special. I have the privilege to lead a team of 25 phenomenal women in an industry that is typically dominated by men. It is their tireless work and commitment to the vision that has made this company exceptional. I am forever grateful and humbled by their sacrifice and support of me and the work we do at NextGen.
