We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Durr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When the pandemic hit, my business partner and I were still Rn’s at the hospital. I was OB nurse in the hospital for my entire career which spanned 2 decades at that point. It seemed all the critical thinking skills that we learned in school and over our careers had been traded for fear. We were not helping ourselves or our patients with all these new rules and protocols we were forced to follow. This didn’t make sense and did not follow the actual science. Then the mandate came down on all of us a year into the pandemic. I am for medical freedom all the way. All people should be able to choose the right path for them and their families. I was heart broken when I realized our place of work, our hospital home we spent 20 years with, only thought of us as a number, employees and patients alike. So we went to all the medical freedom rallies and during our trip to Austin is when we came up with the idea to start our IV Vitamin therapy business. Then we could help people get well and stay well and still use our nursing skills. Michelle my business partner and I got together with a friend of mine who was an ER doctor and we went to work. This time with our own heath and wellness business,
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We started with a desire to change the way our health and our healthcare was going. I feel public health had failed everyone by telling them to stay indoors with a mask on, isolate yourself and come to the hospital when you can’t breathe! What??! This type of healthcare is not what I signed on to provide to my patients.. We at Freedom IV and Wellness have a passion for people! We want everyone to be able to live their best lives no matter what that looks like. So we have strived to learn all we can each day to help people achieve that goal. We are a group of phenomenal nurses and we are learning how to be great businesswomen. That was our challenge. We just kept going and kept striving to be better. We are learning each day how to run a successful business and how to market. We have been to seminars and meetings and sometimes learn from our IV clients and their expertise. We’ve read so many good books on vitamins, nutrition and holistic health and taken courses in this and plan on attending more. We then pass on all this learning to the nurses and paramedics that work with us and our IV therapy clients. That is what sets us apart form other mobile IV vitamin services. Teaching our clients how to continue to stay well and be well and giving them connections if needed and encouragement. We come our name, Freedom IV and Wellness because we believe in freedom, every aspect of that word. People should have the freedom to choose, that’s what America stands for. It’s in our constitution! So we as nurses chose freedom from the crazy healthcare system, to start our own business. Our clients have the freedom to choose wellness and how they will take control of their health and life. Our logo is lady Liberty as a nurse, with angel wings that look like our US flag, holding an IV infusion. I think she says it all.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our son just started playing football, so we attend weekly football games. If someone has never experienced a Texas high school football game, that is a must. We like to barbque and hang out at home. When we do go out we like to go to the lakes- I like lake Lewisville, to go boating and tubing on. We also like to go country dancing and go to Cowboys Red River. We would have to take them on a trip to the Fort Worth Stockyards. If they like history then of course to downtown Dallas to the book depository- Sixth Floor museum and Dealy Plaza. Our favorite steak restaurant is called Texas and it is in Richardson, super awesome atmosphere and the food is fantastic!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have learned so much over the past year about this business. We are so grateful to our medical director and friend Dr. John Turner. He has been instrumental in helping us with our business and all of our clients needs. He is amazing! We have formed friendships with our clients and have met so many new holistic caregivers in this new career journey. Our passion is to help people get well and stay well and we educate them on what that entails whether that is seeing our Dr. Turner or an integrative doctor or Naturopath, chiropractor or nutritionist. We would like to recognize all the new friendships we have formed with our clients and the circle of wellness providers that gets bigger each day! And of course our families that have stood behind us, supported us, helped us with our business and cheered us on! We wouldn’t be as far as we are without you!
