We had the good fortune of connecting with Ciara Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ciara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was simple. I wanted to be able to do something that I love everyday. I also, wanted to have the freedom that comes along with being an entrepreneur. I am a single mother I have a daughter that I would love to leave a legacy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a licensed Cosmetologist for 6 years. I specialize in healthy hair care and extensions. I believe that your natural grown hair should be well maintained and that if you choose to wear protective styling it is an option not a necessity. I also created a hair maintenance oil called Dragonfly Infused Botanical Oil that conditions the scalp and moisturizes the hair. It is 100% vegan cruelty free and it has been a hit with my clients. I have gotten to where I am now professionally by the Grace of God and trial and error. No it isn’t easy, but I do think that it is worth it to try. One of my biggest challenges so far has been with relocating from Michigan to Texas with my baby and starting over. I have learned to keep going with whatever you have in that moment and everything will fall into place. Take your time you won’t miss anything that is for you, relax and take in the present moment. I want Dragonfly Hair Collection to be known as a safe space where you can come and get beautified and unwind. I also want to be known for helping the community, giving back to those who are in need.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area we would have to go and check out Fort Worth Botanical Garden, the views of the different plants and flowers are amazing. We would go visit Vis-a-Vis spa to get pampered and enjoy some good wine and relax. One of those days we will go to Kitchen & Kocktails for some good food and drinks. We would go check out a few different museums I really enjoyed the Museum of Illusions of Dallas and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. I would get her to try vegan food at Spiral Diner and Tap. I love exploring and finding new favorite things to do around DFW.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to say thank you to all of my supportive family, friends, and my clients. They have listened to my ideas and helped me process a lot and put a lot of different things into perspective. Hearing those encouraging words and prayers have truly helped me push through some very tough times. I love you all, thank you.
