We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Countzler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Stable Recovery has been the response that we have received from the horse industry. There is obviously a very large stigma attached to addiction. The fear in the beginning was being able to find jobs for the men in the program. Taylor Made Farm led the way, but it has not taken long for other leading horse farms to get involved with the program.

What should our readers know about your business?
Stable Recovery is a long-term transitional living recovery program for men early in recovery from alcohol or drugs. What sets us apart is the School of Horsemanship at Taylor Made Farm. The men in our program begin training for a career in the equine industry almost immediately. I, myself, am a person in recovery. I spent too many years destroying myself with alcohol and drugs. I have been homeless and incarcerated. I learned many hard lessons through pain and suffering. Those lessons learned are the very fiber of how Stable Recovery was built. Recovery is possible. Not only recovery, but success in recovery is what we teach these men every day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being in the heart of the Bluegrass and the thoroughbred capital of the world, I would take them to Keeneland in the spring. The sights, sounds, and smells are unforgettable. After a day at the races, dinner at Malone’s. You can spend every day of the week touring the rolling hills of these incredible horse farms. The scenery here is majestic and it is an unfair tool I use to help men recover from hopelessness.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This was easy. I would not be where I am today without the love, support, and mentorship of Frank Taylor.
