We had the good fortune of connecting with Christa Zuniga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christa, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
From the first day we started our business, we knew our purpose in life had changed. Four years ago we were faced with a situation that left us at a loss for words. We had an almost one-year-old and a four-year-old when my wife and business partner started having health issues from autoimmunity that was accelerated and exacerbated with the Standard American Diet. She was only 33 at the time and was quickly losing her will to live a normal life. This was not of course discovered by traditional medicine, in fact, it was nearly 2 years later, multiple prescriptions and well over a dozen different doctors because they were not educated on nutrition, how it affects the body or how to look for other answers and causes rather than just treat sypmtoms. Nutrition is the cause of 75% of disease in the United States and that number is growing rapidly every single day. It is also estimated 50 million (or more) people in the US alone have an autoimmune disorder and this number is expected to grow by 19% per year!
So, fast forward to today, and that changing purpose in life is to help provide and educate as many people as we can on the fact that you can heal yourself by giving your body the support it needs to do what it was made to do and most of this comes from eating a diet that is full of nutrient-dense foods. With diet changes and adding vegetables that give you 4 to 40Xs the nutrients of the adult vegetables available at your local grocery stores, your body is much better equipped to heal. These nutrient-dense veggies are, of course, Microgreens: The Original Superfood (TM). This is why we started our Microgreens Farm and why we continue to add other products that help others help themselves.
What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets us apart from others is that our journey started from a health crisis and our business is becoming more and more successful daily because our purpose in life now is to help others know they are worth living for. I am proud of my family for allowing us to take the last three years to build our business, and miss out on almost all holidays and family gatherings. I would say we got to where we are today because our purpose in life is big. I believe the energy we put into the world is exactly what we get back, it’s like a boomerang effect. I wouldn’t say it was easy or challenging, it’s simply satisfying, to know that we are helping others help themselves. I have definitely learned that life can be difficult at times but, if you can believe in yourself and a future you cannot see, then your possibilities are endless. If there was anything that I would want the world to know about me and the brand we are building is that I love what I do every single day and I will take the time to listen to anyone that needs to talk, my business was created to help others and that story is still being written.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to every farmer’s market and park I could find. We would eat foods high in nutrition and visit places that are soulful. We especially enjoy Buda Juice, Juice Land, I Love Juice Bar, Cosmic Cafe, Spiral Diner, Denton Community Market, Krugerville Farmer’s Market, Frisco Fresh market, any and all Landmarks, Parks, Greenbelt Hikes, Lakes, Country Drives, and of course my backyard which has multiple hammocks, developed shade trees, a couple of fire pits, and 29 chickens
The most fun, interesting places and people you can find are in my opinion locals. I love going to small towns and finding everyone’s favorite places to eat and walking the town square. If I had to pick one town square though, it would be in Denton, Texas. The atmosphere is amazing and there is always the feel of smalltown, artsy, and even kid-friendly, take a blanket, get ice cream from Beth Marie’s, listen to the birds and trees and connect with the energy of the people around.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If YouTube and Audible were a person I would give them credit for most of what I know. I call myself a self-educated person because of all the information you can simply find by research alone. I spent hundreds to thousands of hours watching, reading, taking notes, and trying new things to help myself so I can help others. There are thousands of videos and books on how to heal yourself, how to eat and grow foods that our bodies were meant to ingest, and to maintain your health as well.
