Meet Chrisshele Griffin | Owner & Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrisshele Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chrisshele, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
MsChriss BAKES started out of a genuine love for baking, something that has always brought me joy and unleashes my creative side. Over time, friends and family began raving about my desserts, encouraging me to take it more serious and look into starting a business. I paid attention to how my baked goods made people feel — the smiles, the nostalgia, the excitement — and realized this wasn’t just a hobby, it was a gift & something very special!
With my background in administration and my attention to detail, I turned my passion into a business. I saw MsChriss BAKES as not only a creative outlet but a chance to build something of my own, something that reflects my values, work ethic and talent. I was also thinking about ownership, building a legacy and creating a brand that feels personal, warm and made with love — creating treats to make all taste buds happy!!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MsChriss BAKES is a small, home-based baking business that specializes in handmade, soul-satisfying individually wrapped treats. From brownies to mini pound cakes, each item is made with intention, quality ingredients and a whole lot of FLAVOR. What sets MsChriss BAKES apart is the personal touch, the warmth and care that go into every batch. It’s not just about the desserts, it’s about the look and feel of each item as they go from my microbakery to the hands of each customer.
What are you most proud of or excited about?
I’m most proud of how far this business has come — especially because it started from something as simple as baking to relieve stress. I’m excited about the connections I continue to create and I love knowing that my baking helps make moments more special for people.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise?
It’s been a journey of growth, learning and pushing past fear. After that final push, I leaned on my background to build a brand and start taking real orders. Being part of business networking circles & receptive to their advice has helped me grow my business mindset and put real structure behind my passion.
Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
Not at all. Running a business while balancing life, a full-time career and enrolled in a Master’s Degree program is tough. There were moments of doubt, imposter syndrome and burnout. But I overcame those challenges through prayer, by giving myself grace, staying connected to my “why” and surrounding myself with people who believed in me. I also committed to learning all that I could about running a business and the baking industry.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
I’ve learned that consistency matters more than perfection. That it’s okay to grow slow, as long as you’re growing with intention. I’ve learned to trust my gut, take up space and value my work, even when the world doesn’t always make room for small, independent creators.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I want people to know that MsChriss BAKES was built with love, not just for baking, but for people. This brand is rooted in authenticity, connection and joy. Every brownie, every cake, every box is a reflection of that love. I’m not just selling baked goods, I’m sharing pieces of my story and hopefully making someone’s day a little brighter in the process.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the Dallas area, I would do my very best to make sure she had a great time. She would definitely enjoy a mixture of good food, local flavor, culture and a little luxury. We’d start off chill so she can take in the sights, grab some BBQ and tacos to get her acclimated to Texas. We will probably walk around Deep Ellum for live music, street art, and a drink or two; actually I’ll make sure we go on the Mimosa Walk!
We’d grab brunch from a few spots like Bread Winners Café in Uptown, spend some time at places like the Museum of Illusions, hang out in Klyde Warren Park where you can chill or grab food truck snacks and even take a day to head to Waco for a day trip!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I reflect on my beginnings, I realized that baking was always more than a hobby — it was my therapy, my creative outlet and a way to show love. The sweet smell of butter and vanilla became a familiar comfort and sharing my treats with family and friends brought even more joy. Their encouragement was constant, but it was my friend and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority sister, Aisha Franklin, who gave me the final push. She believed in me when I was still on the fence, and her words lit the spark that turned my passion into a business!
Along the way, I’ve been lifted by my incredible family, who have supported me through every recipe, every late-night bake and every small win. I’m also deeply grateful for Dr. Cameka Smith of the BOSS Network and the BOSS Network x Sage Invest in Progress program — a year-long mentorship along with a sizable grant that equipped me with the tools, guidance and confidence to truly grow.
Finally, to my younger self who used to bake just for fun, this journey is for you too!!
