We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Jobin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I write daily, which I’ve done for nearly my entire life. Whether it’s journaling, songwriting, or writing poetry, I feel the need to release what’s going on up in my head every day onto paper. Writing helps me clear my thoughts and emotions and, most importantly, helps me deepen my connection with myself.
I also try to learn one new thing or one new idea daily, whether that is significant or not. When I am not working on music, I am always trying to dig into new books, podcasts, YouTube videos, articles, interviews, etc., to entertain different insights and gain further information. I think it’s vital to keep learning throughout our lives and keep learning in ways that genuinely intrigue us.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a 22-year-old artist/producer, and I have been releasing music as an independent artist for three years. I am incredibly hands-on with my creative process, from writing to producing to engineering. I genuinely love to be a part of the entire process of making a song.
I am most proud of the honesty I have portrayed in my music and the interactions I’ve had with people throughout my career so far. Being a genuine person and moving according to my truths throughout my life and music, unapologetically, is essential to me.
I have put myself in the position I am in because of consistency and self-belief. I can show up for myself and continuously pour into my work because I wholeheartedly believe in the work I am doing. It is by no means easy, especially with the added difficulties young women like myself face, being constantly disrespected and underrepresented in such a male-dominated industry.
To overcome the challenges I face, I choose to turn away from any negativity that causes self-doubt and return to self-confidence. One of the most important lessons I have learned as an artist is to be deeply confident in what I am doing and surround myself with individuals who share that same belief.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my all-time favorite restaurants to eat at in Dallas is Oni Ramen in Deep Ellum. I usually go once a week! Another favorite restaurant that serves the best authentic Canadian food in Dallas is Maple Leaf Diner. My family and I are Canadian, so we love to go there and enjoy our favorite homestyle dishes.
Besides going out and eating, I also spend a good amount of my free time roaming around cool music spots, more specifically record stores. My two go-to record shops at the moment would have to be Josey Records and Good Records!
Another great place in Dallas I’ve started going to is Black Swan Yoga. They are a donation-based yoga studio with a welcoming community. It is a highly relaxing and comforting space to be in!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout for this interview to my parents. These two individuals have been endlessly encouraging and supportive of my journey as an artist/creative since I was a little kid. They have always motivated me to follow my passion and pursue my dreams. The freedom and space they’ve allowed me to explore and become, without any parental pressure, has been key to my growth and development.
