We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea O’Neil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It all started with my love for makeup; since I was a child, I have loved fashion, jewelry, cosmetics, glitz, and glamour. When I would practice my makeup, I loved how it made me feel on the inside, so I told myself if I worked hard enough to perfect my craft, I wanted to give others the experience of feeling the same. I genuinely care for making people feel beautiful, no matter the occasion. So I started Glam Lux by Becca with one thought in mind: bringing out the beauty of others that is already present. It took hours of watching YouTube, following local makeup artists, and taking makeup classes until my purpose for my brand became clear. When I finally reached the confidence level, I had my first client; I was so nervous, but she loved it, and I saw my vision and passion come to life for the first time.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets Glam Lux by Becca apart from the rest is that I cater to my clients and bring out their inner beauty. I connect with them in conversation, making them laugh, or just being there for a momentous occasion. My brand is for everyone, and I strive to make that known; makeup is an expression of art, and I love being creative with my looks. Being in the makeup industry can be challenging, especially when starting from scratch; it’s essential to stay true to yourself, your values, your audience, and your goals for your business. Don’t focus on what others are doing but do what makes you feel unique. It’s all about stepping out on faith is key; God will do the rest when you take the right step.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends come into town, we are going to XOXO for a girl’s night out and visiting Fuel City or Vidorra for some tacos and elotes! My friends and I are foodies, and we love all things Dallas and hanging out when we get together. Dallas is a whole vibe and one the best places to visit to explore and find new things.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, God, I wouldn’t be where I am today without Him. Next, my daughter is my motivation to strive every day to become better at what I do and to provide a life of freedom for her in the future. My family has my heart, and they continually encourage me in all aspects of my life. Also, my friends are supportive and have been since starting Glam Lux by Becca. I read a quote that said, “Your vibe attracts your tribe,” and I’m thankful for my tribe.
