We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlicia Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlicia, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Being an entrepreneur is not for the timid and this is something I am learning everyday. You must have a strong will and work ethic to start a small business and scale it into something you can be proud of.
I must confess, I am somewhat of an introvert and such a trait can hinder the process of “keeping it going”. The fear of being the face of something can make you want to quit because everything is reliant upon you-the owner. A disgruntled client can be your Achilles heel. Customer service must be above and beyond continuously or you risk failure. Even when you’ve put in long hours in the office there is still work after you’ve gone home because in the beginning you are the advertising executive, the pay-roll manager, the tax preparer and all the other ins and outs running a business entails.
You know you must keep going when you are a parent because our children imitate our actions as parents and not our words.
Through my actions, I hope to instill within my children persistence, strong work ethics, and a belief that whatever their minds imagine they can create and bring to life.
When you desire more for your child this is how you know to keep going.
What should our readers know about your business?
MyoLymph Bodyworks is a massage practice that specializes in lymphatic drainage and myofascial release massage. Systemic inflammation is becoming a chronic issue in our current society and lymphatic massage is a powerful way to support the immune system. Our lymph maintains the body’s fluid balance and removes waste products; therefore, by stimulating the lymphatic system we can move lymph fluid that has become stagnant thereby reducing overall inflammation. Not many chain spas offer lymphatic drainage and I’m proud to be an independent business that does.
Now, myofascial release is a different modality that you will either love or hate. It is not your typical massage with much oils or lotion; the release is encouraged with stretching and/or rolling of the skin. The goal is to influence the fascia beneath the skin that encases every muscle, organ, and structure in the body. When there is a dysfunctional tightening of this fascia it can create tension in the muscles it covers. I get excited when I can elicit a feeling of lightness and relief within a client.
MyoLymph Bodyworks has not been an easy endeavor. It has taken me over ten years to get to this point in my career and there is still much work to be done. Self-study is a must to stay on top of the latest research in the lymphatic/massage field. The main challenge when starting a massage practice is the financial aspects which is why I have started small with hopes to expand in the future. Until that goal is reached I will focus on creating a client experience where clients can stress less and feel their best!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
IAmy Maddux a fellow massage therapist opened the door to clinical Massage for me and taught me alot within the realm of medical massage. No words can express the appreciation I have for her letting me get my foot in the door.
