We had the good fortune of connecting with Cedric McCoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cedric, what is the most important factor behind your success?
This is Cedric McCoy co-owner answers

God! So many things have happened in my life, good, bad, easy, and hard. My faith in God is probably my main reason for success. God has blessed me in so many ways. One thing people don’t know about is that Ryan and I never applied to be on a Food Network show. We started out at the Dallas Farmers Market and we were doing pretty well for ourselves, Until we later found out the third person we had with us was taking money. It hurt and left us broke and we didn’t know how to continue, BUT like I always tell people its funny how God works. probably about 2 months or so after we got rid of the third person we get an email from a casting company asking if we would like to do a show. I didn’t believe it, I always thought it was a scam. Why/how would a casting company from Food Network email us when neither one of us even applied to be on ANYTHING! I told Ryan as soon as they ask for money we are out! (hahaha) ……Well they never ask and the day of when we were suppose to film that’s when I really believed it was true!

The show was called The Great Food Truck Rally….. it was supposed to be a spin off/mini version to The Great Food Truck Race and filmed in major cities. So it was filmed here in Dallas and we end up winning that show. The blessings don’t stop there. After we were done filming about a month later we get another call from Food Network again saying they love us and want us to do The Great Food Truck Race Season 8, which we finished 2nd place in that one!

So to me this is part of my testimony. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for God. He paved the way for me and Ryan!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cedric answer

As a child I was always very creative always thinking outside of the box. So my cooking style is very much the same I try to think of new ways to do something, add a twist or flare to it. I love combining different type of flavors together so when you bite into my food you get a combination of different flavors and textures. Some may be weird but for the most part they all end up pairing together very well! lol

No it wasn’t easy to get to this point. I had to endure some work and personal challenges alone the way but I stayed the course and it seems to pay off. I think the person advice I heard was “when you try to accomplish your dream, your dream will always be tested”. I would tell people don’t ever give up if this is what you want to do then don’t give up believe in your faith and in yourself.

I think I would want the world to know about my story is that I have overcame so much and it has been hard and it’s too much to write hahaha, but I believed in God and I believed in myself I didn’t know how, when, or where but I knew it was going to happen!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Cedric answer

Oh wow this is hard for me. I guess I would bring them to Mr. Po’Boys!!! LOL
Other than that probably nothing else. I don’t drink(never have) I don’t do clubs or anything like that. I love watching movies and playing with my daughters! I can tell you some fun kid places to go! hahahahah

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Cedric McCoy answer

Of God is first, but my Mother, Marilyn, she taught me how to cook at a very young age, My Father Cedric Sr. for being the best father there is always made sure I work hard for what I believe in. My parents for teaching my brothers and I to stick together to have each other back. They taught us nothing in life is easy. My brothers Tink and Josh for always being there when I needed them to always picked me up when I was down. My daughters Morgan and Myla when it was a time in my life I wanted to give up they told me “NO” said I can’t give up, both of them look up to me so much, they both want to be Chefs when they get older! And My daughters and I are best friends they are my motivation for everything I do! Also my child hood friends it was times we are still close to this day and they have always supported me no matter what! I probably didnt name all that I should, sorry if i missed anyone! =)
