We had the good fortune of connecting with Ceci Ceci and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ceci Ceci, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose a creative career because it aligns with how my brain naturally functions. From a young age, melodies would come to me effortlessly. It feels like an inherent part of who I am, confirming that songwriting is my true calling.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes me unique? that’s a tough question, but i think i’m a person with a very unique journey. I am a migrant queer musician, who has had many hardships but has find true solace in music. I am most proud of being able to build a music career from the ground up in a new country. Believe me, it was hard, it still is, but if you put yourself out there (in my case reaching out to established musicians in the scene), and make connections, doors will open! Building community is key for any type of success. If you are proud of your art, that translates to confidence, and that will attract good things!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Coffee and vibes at Wild Detectives first, hit up “La Campina” in Oak Cliff for some AMAZING Central American food (reminds me so much of true Nicaraguan cuisine), stop by Black Cat Records n’ Comics for goodies (plus say hi to the fantastic owner Meg), get tattoos from Stacy at Pegasus Studios and finish the night catching any of my musical friends who gig around town!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A special shoutout to my mother, the first one to listen to my songs and offer feedback. Even when I was just starting out, she praised my work, though I am sure it was not the best. Thanks, Mom, for believing in me, introducing me to Stevie Wonder, and taking me to my first concert. Soy quien soy por ti, mami!
