We had the good fortune of connecting with Caytie Langford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caytie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Bold Women Society because I saw a huge need when it comes to women having access to top notch personal and professional development. When I was in my first career, I remember sitting in my corner office thinking, “there has to be something else out there”. But saying that aloud felt bizarre. And finding someone to help me was even harder. So I walked away from that in 2105. I started coaching women in 2016, but it was during the pandemic that I realized that playing small wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted to impact women on a much greater scale. And I didn’t want to do it alone.
What should our readers know about your business?
Bold Women Society is at the intersection of personal and professional development for women. Our vision is a world where every woman unapologetically pursues her dreams because she has the confidence to be bold, the courage to be authentic, and the power that comes from being supported. So everything we do comes back to that. What sets us apart is who we currently serve, younger Gen Xers and older Millenials. This group of women was told at a very young age that we could be and do anything we wanted. And we believed it! But when we got into the workforce there was a lot of “you should do this”. And so we did that. Now as we are in our mid 30’s to mid 40’s, there are a lot of us waking up saying, “this is not the life or career that I want”. Are there other businesses serving that audience, of course. But most of them want them to leave the corporate world and become entrepreneurs. We want to teach them how to find the best corporate fit so we can have ambitious, strong, BOLD women at the seats of those tables. We want them to rise to positions of leadership. We want them to negotiate their salaries. At the end of the day we want more money in the hands of women. With more money comes more opportunity and more power. And we don’t just want one seat at the table, we want lots of seats at EVERY table!
Is starting a business and running it easy? Hell no. It’s hard work. It truly is blood, sweat, and tears. There are major ups and major downs. Being able to steady yourself throughout the highs and lows takes work. According to a recent PwC poll, 65% of people are looking for new jobs. We know that The Great Resignation has impacted women more than men. Whether a woman wants to get a new job, get a promotion, or feel more confident in where she currently is, we are committed to helping them. And unlike all of the other messages they get, we don’t tell them what to do. We help them figure out what it is they want to do, then we give them the tools and strategies to go do it! Is it easy? No. But when we get emails and calls from clients telling us they got a $27K raise or had the confidence to talk to the leadership at her company to create the right role for her or now she can actually write a list of things she loves about herself, it’s 1000% worth it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh how I love Dallas!! Born and raised here!
My favorite places to hang out on a gorgeous Dallas day are the Katy Trail, the Arboretum, or the patio at Deep Ellum Brewery. My favorite beer that you can only get there is called Manic Confidence…which I love because I teach women how to build confidence. I even did gave a TEDx talk at TEDxSMUWomen called “You Absolutely Have the Confidence!”
Restaurants…my husband and I love eating out! Our go to spots are Hillstone, S&D Oyster Bar, Javiers, EBar, Hudson House, Mr. Sushi, and for a big celebration, Bob’s on Lemmon.
My favorite bar in town is The Library at the Warwick Melrose. I love how charming it is!
And if my friend needed to do any work during the week, I love The Slate in the Design District!! The Slater sisters put together a great space!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to shoutout my business partner, and Co-Founder, Amanda Cahill. When I launched Bold Women Society I had an idea of what I wanted the company to become, but there was still a lot of gaps to fill in. A few weeks after I announced what I was doing on social media, Amanda reached out to me to learn more. During that conversation, I shared that I was recruiting advisory board members. And that’s when I learned one of her mottos, “the answer is always no, until you ask”. Amanda asked if I had another spot. Knowing what a badass she is, of course I said yes! About a month later she asked me to have another call. During the conversation, she presented the idea of partnering together. Little did she know, I had been wanting someone to do this work. After doing our due diligence we realized we would be a great fit. Fifteen months later, we are still forging ahead creating Bold Women Society in way to impact the lives of tens of thousands of women.
