We had the good fortune of connecting with Cathleen Mead and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cathleen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My first business, Double Dog Candles, was born out of my love of candles. It began as a hobby and grew into a business that quickly caught on in my community. After about 6 years, my goals changed and financial independence and creative freedom became more important to me. I made the decision to expand my business and start a boutique, selling jewelry only. I soon realized the potential for growth and went all in. Now, CAS offers women’s apparel, jewelry, accessories, and gifts, including my Double Dog Candles.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an entrepreneur. I have a candle company and a women’s boutique. Working my butt off, listening to advice, getting feedback, hearing others creative ideas, surrounding myself with positive people, listening to podcasts and books and of course help from my friends has put me where I am today. I still feel like I have a long way to go so I try really hard not to compare myself to others or get discouraged. I am very proud of my accomplishments so far and that keeps me moving forward towards my goals and dreams. I’m me and I never try to be something I’m not.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take her to boutiques and little shops all around the metroplex.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize all of my amazing friends for their love and support. Specifically, Connie and Sandra for their hours upon hours of planning, creating, dreaming, inspiration, brainstorming and encouragement. I would not be where I am in life without their unwavering support and love.
