We had the good fortune of connecting with Carren Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carren, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired often by the ability to create change within myself. I know that no matter what is going on, change will always be happening. and I want to play apart in that creative process the most. Change can look like a lot of this things, but i want to embrace change with open arms especially when it elevates and improves my life!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a soul singer/songwriter from Dallas, Tx. A rare gem with a smoky, raspy, and jazzy soulful voice. I love a good song full of soul and emotions and a little bit of rock. I think i’ve been “deep” and “old” my whole life lol. I’ve always had a lot to share, a lot to say but mostly i’ve been quiet. I’m a introspective type of artist. I write messages to myself in song. They always seem to be spiritual and self helpful every time. These past few years i’ve learned a great deal of new things so, my new music isn’t as deep or self centered as before. There more light hearted and understanding to what the hell is going on around me and they also are reassuring of better days to come. I’m excited about the new music that i am working on, and i’m really happy with the words and stories that are coming from me now in this part of life. One concept i’ve recently learned and whole heartedly agree with is, to “feel free” and to “be free” is a real obtainable reality for me.

It’s important to me, that as many as can be, be free. Through my music. Through the way that i live my life. I hope i can bring someone to the belief, that they too can be free. I seek freedom everyday. Freedom from fear, from doubt, from self sabotage, from my own mind. I also seek freedom to just be, to live unapologetically! Freedom in every good way for my life. I told you I’m a “introspective” “gotta get right” “wtf is this” type of artist lol.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If your visiting with me here in Dallas, expect nothing, but a good time! I prefer not to make plans and but go with the flow. The only thing i’ll map out is what will eat because i will be cooking for you. Usually eggs and rice as the first meal. at least thats how its been for the past couple of years lol. I would invite you skating at adult night at The Forum Skating Rink. We would definitely go to an arcade! Probably see a movie at The alamo drafthouse. Talk, Chill, and then seperate, even though your still visiting lol.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my mother and father who birth song and healing ministry in me. To my grandfather and grandmother for steady love my whole life. To all my aunties, unclies, brother and cousins who tuned my ears and encouraged me to sing! To my mentor m&m and every encouraging person i meet from this meeting. To my daughter who has watered and grown me since her arrival. To my amazing musical friends around dallas that helped me grow on stage. Thank you all for the love and the push toward my dreams that i’ve needed to move forward thus far in my life.
