We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolyn Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolyn, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Fort Worth, Texas (born and raised). I’m an identical twin with an older, doting, sister and a brother who passed away 15 yrs ago who lived with autism. I am blessed with two parents who love us very much.
I’m a veteran of the U.S. Army. I’ve been a sonographer for 38 years. Additionally, I’ve been a photographer for the last 25 years. I’ve been ambitious since childhood with a strong drive to take on the world, striving for excellence. To this day my thirst for excellence has not diminished.
Today, I’m older, wiser, married with grown children and nothing has changed about my “give me more to conquer” mind set! I’d have to say this “go for the gold” attitude and mindset came from watching my greatest inspiration in life (aside from my Lord and Savior), is my mother, Lola Breed. No other person in my life has exemplified the epitome of true success more than her which is…love of God, devotion to family, establishing oneself as an entrepreneur and making a difference for the better!
As a successful seamstress and later opening her own upholstery business, my mother constantly provided visual examples of success. She labored diligently raising her children amidst the many challenges that came with caring for an autistic child.
She currently resides in a nursing home, however she never ceases to offer words of encouragement as well as life-changing advice.
My mother’s life of faith and character of true grit in overcoming obstacles has served as an example to significantly impact the person I am today.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve spent the last 38 years of my life as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer specializing in obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound. This necessitates obtaining images which requires a special skill and art form. This springboards to my love of photography.
In photography, there’s a definite art and skill involved with getting the right combination of settings, composition, and final editing of a photo that’s meant to preserve a moment in time to last forever.
As a sonography, my goal in each experience with a patient is to create a moment of special bonding with their little one through images they will always remember, as with my photography!
“Catching little pieces of time,” I once heard in a song and that’s exactly how I approach each photoshoot. I chose the name
OMG Photstuff, for this reason:
I want people to be wowed and when they view photos of themselves, the response I hope to garner is “OMG!“ It does my heart good to know that my goal to provide a customer with an unforgettable experience was accomplished!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting the Fort Worth area, we would have to visit the the following places.
1. The Historic Fort Worth Stockyards – Where the west begins! Love the daily cattle drives, authentic western fashion / shops and the best burgers in town at the Trailboss Burgers on Exchange St.
2. You can’t visit Ft Worth without going to Sundance Square, the Water Gardens, the 7th Street area and the Trinity River Park.
3. If you haven’t had a Torchy’s Taco, it’s a must try! My favorite is the Crossroads, a smoked brisket taco accented with avocado and jalapenos.
4. Breakfast is favorite part of my day. Yolk (downtown Ft Worth) and Snooze (West 7th Street) are two of my favorite spots to start the day off.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to two individuals. First, my mother Lola Breed for the many examples of start-up ideas, creative thinking and the never give up spirit.
Second, my supportive husband Rollin Morris (aka, my partner in crime) who I have, no doubt, left wondering “what have I gotten myself into”? Without their inspiration and support, I may not be where I am today.
