We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Guinn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caroline, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I love photos, capturing the moment, reliving the past. I’ve always been a scrapbooker, a blogger, a memory hoarder. When I was in college and newly graduated I was always the girl bringing my camera out on the town and posting an entire album on facebook (in the days before your grandmother was one of your friendly followers)! It was when I stepped into motherhood, however, that I really desired to hold onto every single little detail of the lives of my two little girls and my iphone just wasn’t cutting it. I took some courses to learn how to use my “mom camera” and boom a business was born! I am still honestly shocked and humbled that I have turned my passion into a legit business, but my clients are moms and families just like me who want to preserve these precious moments in time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Aside from a love of photography, I am truly passionate about design. In college, I either wanted to be an interior designer or an event planner. I ended up not pursuing either one (played it “safe” and got a business degree), but even so it still plays such a role in my photography today. I love capturing the details of a well planned event. When I am at a newborn session, I care just as much about capturing the beauty of the room and design elements as I do about the mother snuggling her baby. One of my favorite things about this job is walking into a family’s home for the first time, taking it in and deciding how I can get the most creative shot that both capture the emotion, while also creating an artistic moment.

I also really value getting to know people. I have met an incredible number of families in all parts of Dallas in the last several years (What pandemic? I probably met more new people in 2020 than I had in any other year prior!). I want to know your life story, I want to be your friend on instagram, I want to follow along on your journey and watch your babies grow! The relationships that are formed because of this job are just as special to me as watching my business grow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok, so when I was pretty fresh out of college, my friend Adrian Faubel (another amazing Dallas photographer) and I created a blog/instagram account called “Dallas Brunch Club” where we brunched our way around Dallas, rated them on everything from food and ambiance to how strong their mimosas were. Ha! Obviously, we had way more spare time before becoming parents! Anyway, all that to say, I love a good brunch!

There are so many fun and trendy restaurants in Dallas, but my old reliable, fav brunch spot is Taverna. Love the food, the people watching, the $3 peach bellinis! If we have a weekend morning available that’s where I’m headed.

And if I need an early dinner spot on a nice day, I’m hitting up the patio at Javier’s for some chips and butter (IYKYK) and a skinny marg! Then I’m grabbing a handful of Andes mints on the way out! 😉

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband is definitely my number one supporter. The hours of this job aren’t always easy – late nights editing, location scouting & lots of weekends spent chasing the good light and accommodating other’s schedules, means he pulls Dad duty a lot, but we make a great team. He sends me an encouraging text every single time I leave for a shoot and has watched my followers count grow on instagram like a proud father! haha

I am also beyond lucky to have such an amazingly supportive group of girl friends in my corner. When I was just beginning, I announced to my mom church group that I was going to really begin pouring into my photography hobby and they lifted me up with encouragement, let me practice on their children, hired me when I only kind of knew what I was doing and shouted my name from the rooftop. I credit these women with so much of my success!
