We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolina Romero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to do more for rescue dogs, both donating more to them but also helping fight the stigma that pitbull type dogs have, so I decided to create a small business where we hand make dog clothing and accessories focused on big chested dogs, and we donate 30% to a different rescue every month.

FurRescue Fashions was born out of a desire to help change the negative stereotypes that surround bully breeds, particularly pit bull-type dogs. Our shop dog, Cielo, is believed to be a survivor of an illegal, backyard breeder situation where she was not only neglected but abused. A shy, scared and anxious girl, she opened our eyes to the cruelty and discrimination these dogs face every single day.

Everybody loves a pittie in PAWjamas so we created a brand that would allow us to give back to dogs in need, while showing the true and gentle nature of these majestic boys and girls through cute clothing items and accessories.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a lawyer and practiced law for 20 years. But in 2020 I decided that what truly made me happy was helping rescue dogs. So I devoted completely to my small business and to rescuing and fostering. Since I started FRF, we’ve been able to donate over $50,000 in cash to different rescues and over 1500 pieces of dog pajamas to dogs in need.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Annapolis and the best thing to do here is to enjoy the bay! Go out on the boat to have lunch at a restaurant by the bay, or even go to the vineyard by boat. At night, go to downtown and enjoy Naptown’s night life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Justin, who helped me come up with this idea of creating FurRescue Fashions as a way to help rescue dogs, and who has supported me all the way. Also my amazing ambassadors who have helped me with the business in every way.
