Meet Carlos Armendariz | Founder and Owner of Durango Stone Granite

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Armendariz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlos, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This was not an easy choice to make. Having worked for someone else my whole life, I did not know the first thing about starting and owning your own business, and the fact that I am not from the United States did not make this any easier either. What I did know, however, was that it was not impossible to do so. With the help of my wife, and children, I was able to create Durango Stone Granite. I was tired of living paycheck to paycheck, and wanted to be able to provide a life to my family that was not limited to how much I knew I was going to make. It was not easy at first, but through trial and error, we have been more successful every year since then!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Durango Stone Granite specializes in fabricating and installing natural and engineered stone countertops for residential and commercial projects. We know there are many other business out there that do the same work as us, but we truly do believe that we are one of a kind. It may sound cliché, but I truly do believe that we are one of the best in what we do because we always go the extra mile on every project, no matter how big or small it is, and we always make sure to focus and take our time on the small details, unlike many of our competitors. I am most proud of how much of our clientele has grown in the last few years, especially with the fact that most of our business comes through recommendations. Getting to where we are now was not easy, My family and I faced many obstacles along the way, and we had to learn many new things about how to run a business, but I soon realized that you really do have to spend money to make money, and investing in your own business will most definitely pay off in the long run. Nonetheless, I believe that being able to show others how successful I have been alongside my family, through this small business of ours, shows that anyone can truly pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, no matter their background!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Historic Downtown Fort Worth has some of the best restaurants that I have ever been to, and the number of restaurants there is still growing!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife and children have been there with me through thick and thin since day one. They have been the ones who have helped my business get to the point where it is now, and where it has yet to be. Through literal hard work and perseverance, we have been able to get through many hard times, and enjoy the even more easy and relaxing days that we have been able to experience now that I am my own boss. They are my number one reason for motivation, and that will never change.
