We had the good fortune of connecting with Carissa Donnell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carissa, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from DFW metroplex in Texas. I say that because I am not ‘from’ any specific city or even county.

I was moved a lot as a kid, not military, just moved because my mom couldn’t keep a job for longer than 2 yrs. I don’t have siblings, never had a single friend growing up – still don’t have any. So, when you spend your entire life in solitude with no family or friends; your imagination grows, and the comfort of creativity is the only escape.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am by no means a professional artist. Not a single person has purchased anything from me. My life is nothing but struggle, I have never had a single moment of reprieve, so I cannot really imagine life without hardship.

The minute I share “my story” people regret asking or don’t believe half of what I tell them. My past is filled with such darkness and trauma it would make any crime show cover it’s ears and hide under the covers. I don’t talk about my past because it makes others uncomfortable.

So, I focus on branding myself as someone who can turn any idea or concept into a beautiful painting. But because I have no commissions or requests I am left to push out the dark/gore things that come to mind.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite places in Dallas are: Meteor Burger
Hopdoddy
Lazy dog
Big Tony’s Philly Cheese steak

Considering I grew up in poverty and still live a low income life – I don’t exactly have exposure to the ‘night life’ here. That’s kind of a rich/privileged person thing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Husband Maxton Donnell is the only person on the entire world who supports me. He is positive and amazing in every way.
