We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Shantell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My businesses help the community in many ways. First, my law firm, Shantell Law, PLLC, assists business owners with navigating the legalities of business ownership. Many business owners are great at providing their solicited services or products to customers, but many struggle with contracts, properly forming their company, protecting their brand with trademarks, initiating and defending lawsuits and so much more. I help with these things so that 1) their business is protected; and 2) so that they can focus on their customers and not worry about the legalities of running a business. With my assistance, business owners are able to stay in business longer and expand.

Additionally, my other business, Sophisticated Business Owners, LLC, also helps the community of business owners. We do this by providing digital products such as do it yourself courses and e-books that teach business owners how to correctly handle some of the business legalities themselves. These digital products are a much lower investment price compared to the costs of hiring an attorney which allows business owners of all economic statuses to buy them. Through these courses such as my Do It Yourself Trademark Course or LLC Setup e-book, business owners no longer have an excuse as to why their brand is not protected with a trademark or their LLC isn’t properly formed. Ultimately, we bridge the gap so that no business owner is left behind due to their finances.

What should our readers know about your business?
I currently run two businesses, my law firm, Shantell Law, and my business coaching company, Sophisticated Business Owners. I am most proud of all the business owners that I help gain ownership of their brands with trademarks. Many business owners have no clue that they don’t own their brand without a registered trademark over it. So, when I am able to education business owners on my social media platforms and guide them into getting their trademark, that makes me so proud.

I got to where I am today by believing in myself no matter how bad the circumstances looked and always finding innovative ways to serve business owners. No, it has not always been easy, but it was certainly worth it. I’ve overcome challenges in getting to where I am today, by staying grounded in my spiritual practices and leaning on my support system when needed.

I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way, but the biggest lesson is to always take time out for selfcare. Myself and many business owners alike often get so entranced with working and grinding for our business that we forget about ourselves. This often leads to burnout, depression, and many other things that can be avoided.

I want the world to know that my brand takes pride in lightening the load of business owners and being essential in protecting and defending their brand.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ironically, my best friend is visiting me here in Dallas in about two weeks. I plan to take my dad to grab some vegan food from one of my favorite client’s food truck (Vegan Vibrations). Then, we will checkout some nightlife at Shark Club, Lava Cantina, and possibly Venetti’s. Other than that, we will be enjoying the city down town at Klyde Warren Park and just hanging out.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, I’d like to shoutout my amazing support team. This includes, my loving aunt Dorothy Butler-Solomon, my grandmother, Regina Curry, and my dad, Darryl Calhoun. Without them, I would not be where I am today, so, I will forever cherish them in my heart for all the many years that they have and continue to encourage me to achieve my wildest dreams.
