Meet Camay Davis | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Camay Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Our family faced an unimaginable tragedy-the unexpected passing of our 20 year-old daughter, Zaria La’Von. Seeking solace and healing, I turned to sewing, discovering that the rhythmic hum of the sewing machine became a form of therapy, transforming my grief into artistry. With each stitch, I found strength, drawing inspiration from my daughter’s memory to create one-of-kind fashion pieces. What began as a personal healing journey soon blossomed into LAVON CUSTOM CREATIONS, a brand dedicated to elegance, individuality, and meaning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Beyond fashion, I am passionate about inspiring others who face grief, hardship, or life’s challenges. I believe that even in pain, there is purpose, and I hope my journey encourages others to find their own paths to healing and fulfillment. Through my designs and our story, I’m not only redefining fashion but also proving that beauty can rise from adversity. Starting a business is definitely not for the faint at heart. Many days I felt like throwing in the towel giving up, and this is when I had to lean into my “WHY…” to encourage me to keep going. Taking a leap of Faith the unknown is always a frightening thing however, I was told “Do It Anyway…Do It Scared…”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Still learning the city my favs are North Park Mall I spend a lot of time there grabbing a quick bite at Eataly. I like museums as well so Dallas Museum of Art. Highland Park is another favorite of mine when I just want to escape walking taking in the sights.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many have encouraged the efforts in starting LAVON CUSTOM CREATIONS, in memory of our daughter my family, my church family, and friends. I aggressively lean into my Faith and reading of the Bible to keep me inspired.
