We had the good fortune of connecting with Calandra Eddington-Chavis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Calandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve been a nurse for 18 years and wanted to create a space where, women especially, can learn about holistic health. There are many avenues that are not explored when it comes to healing beside taking prescribed medications.
Due to this, I decided to become a certified aromatherapist, health and wellness coach, and will become a clinical herbalist and a women’s health nurse practitioner.
There are 5 aspects to holistic health that are not thoroughly taught in the doctor’s office: 1) Environment 2) Physical 3) Spiritual 4) Environmental 5) Physical.
These are the puzzle pieces to holistic health that I teach to my clients to aid in their health and well being.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In May of 2004, I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. Being in nursing school was very tedious and physically and mentally draining, especially when you’re pregnant. I was told to take an incomplete, even though I was passing. There were other colleagues that were pregnant as well and was not given that suggestion. That made me strive harder to get my degree. It’s sad to say that adversity pushes you, but I wouldn’t take it back for the world. My daughter was a month old when I graduated. I had the support of my family and my friends to assist me in overcoming those challenges. Of course, the prayers, faith and discipline helped me get through.
Never let anyone put limits on you. You have the power within you to accomplish your dreams regardless of your race, background, or your socioeconomic status.
Nursing with Nature was thought of in 2019. I had a desire to learn more about holistic health to educate the women in my community. There is more than just taking a pill that only masks the symptoms. Let’s put the puzzle pieces together of your whole life to see how you can get back to wellness as much as you can.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I love food and wine. Here are a list of places I would love to take her while she is visiting me.
Distinctive Vines Wine Lounge-I plan to visit this place soon 🙂
True Kitchen
Grapevine WIne Tours
Poured-Mansfield, TX
The Plant Project/Iman Project- We love plants
The Red Claw-Arlington
Klyde Warren Park
My best friend and I are both introverts, so we will be comfortable with seafood and wine at home. 🙂 But, these are the places she will be pleased with when she visits me from Virginia.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to thank God for making a way for me. My family, especially my mother, Brenda Eddington, for pushing me to strive to be my best and for helping me with my daughter, Samone. I would also like to thank my daughter for giving me the courage to pursue my dreams. She has always given me ideas to expand my business. She is an entrepreneur in the making. My husband, Terrance Chavis, supported me in every step of the way. I appreciate him allowing me to pursue my dreams and stepping in when I needed him the most.
Lastly, I definitely want to thank my friends, Chimere, Andrica, DeShana and Letemia for believing in me and sorority sisters of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc
