We had the good fortune of connecting with Cal Calaway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cal, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are probably one of the most important decisions you will make. They can make or break your business. If you take calculated risks; however, they can be the catalyst that launches you to where you want to be with your business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Previously, I was a bank employee. I worked as a Teller, Personal Banker, Customer Service Rep and Branch Manager. Currently, I run the business office for a nursing facility and operate Silver Eye Apparel when I am not there. Ryan Leach, co-owner of Silver Eye Apparel, is a full-time tattoo artist and runs the creative side of Silver Eye Apparel. His talent as a tattoo artist is the driving factor of our business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While I am fairly new to the area, I have been trying to try as many new places in my area over the past couple of months. First, we would go to Down South Kitchen & Bakery in The Colony. They have some amazing breakfast options and delicious mimosas. To burn off that massive breakfast, swinging over to the Grandscapes in The Colony for some fun at the Jurassic World Exhibition. For lunch, heading over to Kenny’s Burger Joint would be my all time favorite burger restaurant. After this, Truck Yard would be an awesome next stop to relax and digest those massive Kenny’s burgers. For dinner, Haywire is the place to go. They have unbelievable whiskey and wine selection. Not to mention, their steaks are to die for.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think a lot of recognition needs to go to the people that you don’t see on the for front of a business. I would personally like to give credit to my step father, Logan Sexton, who has been guiding me on starting my first business. He has been able to give knowledge on everything from creating a business plan, starting an LLC to marketing and design.
