We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlan Cornell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caitlan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process in starting my own business was first wanting to be able to create and adapt my own schedule and salary to work around planning a future for my family for when my husband and I want to start having children. I want to be able to be there for them, but also have a space where I can do what I love! I also wanted to be able to cater to my clients in whatever they need and decide on my own what that would look like. Working for myself, I am able to personally decide what products and technologies I want to bring in to the business and have a solid reasoning as to why I chose what I chose. I want to be able to give my clients results and make my business personal to them.
I have made sure to make my space as comfortable as I like it to be when I go to get these kinds of services done. I want someone to feel like my space is safe and cozy. Someplace they want to keep coming back to. I am grateful I was able to create my business for all these reasons.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Esthetically Savvy, is based in esthetics. I am a licensed esthetician of over 4 years and under that, a certified waxer and lash artist. I specialize in lash lifts, extensions and skin care. The beauty industry is a heavily-saturated market, and my business is one I want to stand out because of its personal touch. I want every client to feel like I am meeting their needs and not my own finances. I aim to never oversell my services or products. If I recommend a treatment, product or lash service, it’s because I think you will truly benefit from it. My space is a place where you can feel free to chat and catch up or rest and enjoy music and quiet. But, I want you to leave feeling refreshed and enhanced! Your skin and lash health are my priority. Every service I offer uses products I trust and would ordo use on myself.
I aim to also be educated and to never stop learning from other estheticians, teachers and lash artists around me.
It was very hard for me to gain clients when I first began. I was anxious to meet new people and “sell” myself and services. But, as I continued on and was encouraged by others, I started to feel more confident in my knowledge. I also know that kindness goes a long way and I want to be someone that a client feels comfortable talking and sharing their life story with. I’m a very open person and always have been, and this field is one where that openness is often taken well and makes others feel safe. I love all of my clients and I am so grateful for the ones who have stuck with me since my awkward beginnings and have let me grow and encouraged me to keep going. That’s what I do this for.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone were visiting Denton, I would recommend many places to go! I love Seven Mile for brunch, Thai Square for dinner, and ice cream at Beth Maries. I also love walking around the Denton Square and checking out Recycled Books and maybe a stop by Free Play. Denton also has beautiful parks and a few walking trails here and there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have encouraged me as I took the steps to making my business mine. First, my husband and family. They are my biggest supporters and have been with me every step of the way. From my husband helping me with budgeting and marketing to my dad creating my brand and my mom and mother-in-law helping my decorate and make the space what it is. I could not have done any of this without them! Thank you, Matthew, Dad, Mom, Alicia, and Scott. And a shoutout to my grandparents and grandparents-in-law and to my grandpa who is no longer with us, thank you for your encouragement. I love you guys!
I also have been blessed to work for so many women who walked beside me and encouraged me to be bold and work hard. Thank you, Lauren and Sherry.
