We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Fish and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always loved making things pretty using simple elements. In high school I stapled wrapping paper onto my walls. Ha ha. I went to school for Fashion Design and I think there is a natural progression from fashion to interiors. It’s all about tones, textures, lines, and shapes. After becoming a stay at home mom, I began to decorate my friends’ homes. We would have playdates and I couldn’t stop looking at how a room was laid out and think how the flow of the space would be so much better if they just moved a few pieces of furniture. I couldn’t help myself. This led to me helping others and eventually I started my own business. I love helping people fall in love with their homes again with just a few simple changes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, first let me say I am not an interior designer. There are so many talented people in the DFW area who are true interior designers. I am an interior decorator. I bring pretty things together into existing spaces to create a flow and feel that makes each space come alive. I know I’m not going to get a lot of jobs because of that limitation, but I’m ok with that. I don’t see myself designing beautiful hotels or million dollar homes. I love working with the everyday family that just wants their home to feel special. Covid confined us to our homes for so long that I think we all started having a desire for change and greater functionality. My favorite thing to do is create a totally new space using items my clients already have in their home. It’s amazing what a simple coat of paint and a furniture re-arrange can do to bring life back to a dated interior. You don’t have to break your budget to have a beautiful home!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh, I love love love Bishop Arts. I don’t get down there nearly enough. There is so much color and texture being poured into an already lively space and it’s just so fun. All of your senses are engaged there. I love sitting out on the patios with a cocktail, watching all of the people buzz about. Paradiso, Eno’s, Tejas, The Wild Detectives, Dirt…I love it all. So I think we would for sure have to do a late lunch there after hitting a few thrift stores and possibly some shops in the Design District. I love every single Goodwill and Salvation Army I’ve ever met. ha ha. But for sure we would have to head back to my neighborhood – Lake Highlands – for some Resident Taqueria or Vector Brewing finishing up the day with a treat from Andy’s custard.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh gosh, my husband for sure. He puts up with me wanting to change things in our home ALL the time. I think he’s cool with it because everything I do is budget friendly and he trusts my eye. (Thank goodness)
