We had the good fortune of connecting with Brody Montez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brody, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
A quote that means a lot to me is, “Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20.” To me this means that everyone’s journey is different. Someone who you may be comparing yourself to may be years into their craft and already perfected it. This can destroy your motivation and hinder your confidence. When you compare your beginning to someone else’s ending, you’re not seeing the full story. You’re seeing the edited version. Their success looks effortless to you but what you’re not seeing is the failing, doubting, and struggles all while growing. Every master was once a beginner.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer based out of the DFW area. I started my photography journey my freshman year of high school after taking A/V class. I picked up a camera and took photos of my school sports and fell in love with photography ever since. What I’m most proud of is everything I’ve done is self taught and self driven. All I had was consistency, creativity, and a love for photography. So far, the journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to learn how to market myself, deal with slow clientele and prove myself in a crowded space. These challenges have made me a better person and photographer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would be starting the day with lunch at City Works in The Shops at Clearfork. After lunch, we would take a drive to Dallas and explore Victory Park to enjoy all of the nice scenery. We would then go to The Star in Frisco to appreciate all things that The Star has to offer. Ending the night, we would go eat dinner at Texas Live to admire the great atmosphere.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I give all glory to God. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He has the ultimate plan for me and I hope to follow his path that he has set out for me. God’s timing is perfect. Secondly, I would like to thank my parents for believing in me and pushing me to be the best version of myself I can be. Their unwavering support means everything to me. Lastly, I would like to thank everyone that has supported me and given me opportunities to share my craft. In the short time I’ve been in photography, I have received many opportunities that I’m forever grateful for. Also, I would like to give special recognition to one of my good friends, Canon Lightfoot. His constant affirmations push me to keep going and to continue working on my craft. He always says, “Keep going bro, you’re going to make it big one day.” These words mean the most.
