We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, what principle do you value most?
Something that is really important to me is empowering women in all aspects of life. A major goal of mine is to harvest a woman to woman commerce culture through my business. I try to source as many products as possible from small women owned businesses especially local ones. A lot of female consumers out there really want to support other women in business and owning a women’s boutique gives me the opportunity to make sure this happens.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a women’s lifestyle boutique in Downtown Denton, TX called La Di Da. We try to create a unique, laid back shopping experience that pushes other local women owned businesses. What really sets us apart from other boutiques is the care and values we put into curating our store. We don’t just bring in lines that we think we’re going to make money off of. We keep sustainability and philanthropy in the forefront when choosing products to sell in our store. Though this makes us unique to most fashion retail stores, it also poses new challenges. It’s honestly not too difficult to make money in this business, but it’s hard to do it ethically which is our end goal.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I have friends or family visiting Denton, it’s all about downtown. Every night out would start at one of favorite places Ten:One Artisanal Cheese Shop to try whatever latest cheese boards they have happening. A couple of my favorite dinner spots are Barley & Board and Komodo Loco. After dinner, I’d suggest drinks at Eastside which is a great beer garden or if we’re feeling a little fancy we would head over to a little speak easy style bar called Paschal’s. I would make sure to treat my guest to brunch the next day at either The Chestnut Tree or Hannah’s. After brunch, we’d do a little shopping around the square at some of my favorite local places such as Atomic Candy, Norman Roscoe, Wilkinson’s, True Leaf and Half Pint Children’s Boutique. And of course it’s not a trip to Denton without a slice from J&J’s Pizza and an ice cream from Beth Marie’s.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband Leddy and my two year old daughter Winnie. They are my rock. My husband is my biggest supporter and his unwavering belief in me is more than humbling. I don’t know where I would be without his constant encouragement. My daughter is also a huge driving force in my business. My dedication to women to women commerce wouldn’t be nearly as strong if it weren’t for her. Raising her in an environment where women can be wives, mothers, business owners or really whatever they want to be is very important to me.
