We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Duke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
From a young age, being surrounded by a family of entrepreneurs, I grew up with a spirit of self-reliance and an understanding of the value of hard work. My upbringing was not just an education in business mechanics, but a lesson in the power of autonomy and the direct correlation between effort and reward. This environment was not just inspiring but laid the foundation for my professional aspirations.
There were a few driving forces behind my decision to start my own business:
Control Over My Work: In previous roles, I often felt limited in the work I was able to do. I had this intrinsic need to have agency over the projects I took on and the methods with which they were executed. I craved the ability to steer my own ship, making decisions that I believed were in the best interest of my objectives without external constraints.
Freedom of Time: The traditional 9 to 5 structure always felt limiting. I yearned for a setup where my time was truly mine. Starting my own business offered me the flexibility to decide when I work and how I manage and allocate that time. This freedom doesn’t mean less work but rather the power to work in a rhythm most conducive to my productivity and well-being.
Designing My Future: My aspirations have always extended beyond the confines of a typical 9 to 5 job. I’ve always wanted to create, innovate, and leave a lasting impact. By owning my own business, I could build something that wasn’t just about making a living but about crafting a legacy.
Lastly, knowing that I come from a lineage of entrepreneurs, there’s an added layer of support and understanding. There’s a shared experience, a collective wisdom that I can tap into. My family’s journey has been a testament to the fact that with determination, vision, and hard work, you can carve out your destiny. Their successes and challenges served as both motivation and cautionary tales, guiding me as I embarked on this entrepreneurial path.
In essence, starting my own business was not just a professional decision but a personal one, deeply rooted in my upbringing and my vision for the future. It’s about autonomy, legacy, and the relentless pursuit of creating something truly mine.

But in each challenge, we found an opportunity – an opportunity to learn, adapt, and emerge more robust than before. Throughout our journey, two lessons have been paramount: First, recognizing our boundaries and understanding that we cannot extend our aid to everyone. My husband has been a huge factor in not only my success but the success of our business. As my partner in life and business, he has helped me navigate the waters of entrepreneurship. He has supported me when our revenues were low and put some of his own dreams on hold to help push our business forward. Our business would not be where it is today without his support and talents.
