We had the good fortune of connecting with Bright Ideas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bright, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I attribute my success to hard work, consistency, and friends. I started Bright Ideas in 2020 as a “pandemic project”, and honestly I never thought I’d be doing what I am now. I’ve been making music for over 20 years, but it took me a good year of practicing how to mix and master this genre before I felt comfortable enough to share my tracks. It all started to snowball once I got past that and started releasing music consistently. Staying consistent helped me get over the self-conscious feeling of putting myself out there, and I found you automatically start to get better and learn what works when you do it repeatedly. People will only take you as serious as you take yourself, and the friends, fans, and everything else start to naturally fall into place if you’re consistent and staying true to yourself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I initially started Bright Ideas intending to make vaporwave and lofi, but the music kind of naturally took itself in another direction. Over the last couple years I’ve worked hard to create a signature sound blending wave, phonk, ambient, and trap, and I’ve become known for having a darker epic/cinematic sound that’s unique in the genre. I draw a lot from my previous life as a metal musician to add a different layer of individuality, and it definitely sets me apart from others. .
I also draw a lot of inspiration from the occult, mysticism, magick, transhumanism, and similar concepts. Over the last couple of years I’ve really started to zone in on this for the artwork and visuals I make for my music, and it’s eventually become my overall aesthetic. I know some people may hear where I get my inspiration and make assumptions about me, but everything I do is with the intention of bringing people towards the light. I’ve had some pretty dark periods in my life, and music has always been something that’s saved me in a way and helped pull me out of things. I’m just trying to pass that forward in whatever way I can.

To be honest, Bright Ideas almost feels like something separate from me that I casted out into the world. At this point I’m just along for the ride.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I know it sounds counterintuitive to my craft, but I’m a pretty low key guy lol. I think a perfect day would be brunch at Oddfellows in Bishop Arts, a visit to Lula B’s in Oak Cliff followed by the Half Price Books hub off of Northwest Highway, then dinner at Hutchin’s BBQ in McKinney. Some other places we’d be visiting would be Freeplay arcade’s Richardson location, Recycled Books Records CDs in Denton, Josey Records in Farmers Branch, Elm Fork Shooting Sports, Deep Ellum Art Co., and the Texas Theater. Some places we’d be dining at are Kenny’s Italian, Deli News, Local, Emporium Pies, Truck Yard, and Royal China. I moved to Dallas in 2009, and even in 2024 I’m still finding new places I’ve never been.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I feel deserve this and there’s so many people that have supported me along the way. To name a few – Ryan Celsius and team for giving all of us a platform, Holy Mob for inspiring me to do this in the first place, Ponsuda, Durdee, Curz, and all of my infinite.wav family, and all of the talented people I get to call my friends. To name a few: Xala, AWVRE, Futura X, Phamsta, Odd 1 Out, Planet V, the old Overseas Connection crew, the Phonk Around and Find Out crew, and all of the people all over the world I talk to and have formed bonds with through music despite us never even meeting in person. I could make this list go on forever with the people I think deserve some recognition.
