We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Bohannan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
This is an interesting question as I am at an inflection point in my life given that my 40th birthday is sneaking up on me quickly. To this point in my life, I have been incredibly risk tolerant. It is my belief that being risk adverse leads to inaction, and inaction is boring. As I think about the past (nearly) 40 years, and the back forty that is upcoming, I believe that I will continue to take huge risks and enjoy the journey that comes with those, whether they materialize in to huge financial wins or losses. Money is something that is earned; it comes and goes, but the experiences don’t and time is finite. For me, it is all about the experience and the journey, the financial impact is way down the list. Taking huge risks is why I am where I am today and it has made a huge impact on my career.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I still invest in and operate various businesses. My focus currently is on my restaurant, The Barrel. I had experience running services business, so I understood the importance of running a business with great operational/ financial controls. I wanted to have a spot that our community could enjoy. Where friends and families could come together to share stories, laugh, and have fun. My assumption was that if I could successfully build a spot that encouraged that, and paired it with my experience in running services businesses, that it would be successful. So far, it has been good.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For vacations, I am huge mountain guy. I would probably bring them out to my house in Durango, CO and show them all that Colorado has to offer. We would ski or hike during the day, and eat downtown at El Moro’s Tavern for dinner.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family, friends and colleagues should get all the credit for where I am at in my life. The experiences throughout my life have either directly impacted my journey, or taught me lessons that have prepared me for the decision I have, and continue to make, which ultimately had steered me to where I am now.
