We had the good fortune of connecting with Brady Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brady, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
That if you don’t quit no matter what age or timing of your life your time will come, just cant get ready, you have to stay ready.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a bold, chaotic blend of humor, heart, and raw emotion. I’m a self-taught artist who started painting out of necessity — to stay sane, to stay creative, and to find another way to tell my story. I’ve always been a performer, a stand-up comedian, but art gave me a new language to speak in. What sets me apart is my ability to infuse personality, satire, and storytelling into every brushstroke. Whether it’s a wild portrait of a pop culture icon or a twisted, expressive scene, I paint with urgency and intention.

I’ve been fortunate to create custom pieces for people I admire, like Theo Von and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Having Arnold hold up one of my paintings was a full-circle moment — from watching him as a kid to creating something he’d proudly show off. That’s the kind of connection I chase with every piece.

My work now hangs in iconic comedy clubs like The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, LA Comedy Club in Las Vegas, and Madhouse Comedy Club in San Diego. Being part of those spaces — where so many legends have performed — is surreal. I never went to art school. I didn’t have a mentor. I learned by doing, by messing up, and by trusting my gut. I taught myself the way I learned stand-up: one mistake at a time.

The road here hasn’t been easy. I’ve taken plenty of risks and faced a lot of rejection, but I never stopped creating. I recently relocated to Dallas to be closer to family and to refocus on my next chapter as both a visual artist and performer. What I’ve learned is that consistency beats perfection. That showing up for yourself matters more than being liked.

At the core of my brand is this: I make things that make people feel something. Whether it’s laughter, discomfort, nostalgia, or just a moment of pause. I want the world to know that my story is about resilience, reinvention, and relentless creativity. My art is loud, weird, and honest — just like me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Dallas, I’d show them the real side of the city — the food, the energy, and the weird little gems you don’t find on tourist guides. We’d hit Terry Black’s for BBQ, wander through Bishop Arts for cool shops and art, then dive into Deep Ellum for live music and late-night chaos. Somewhere in there we’d catch a comedy show, maybe do a rooftop dinner at HG Sply Co., and take a day trip to the Fort Worth Stockyards just for the full cowboy experience. It wouldn’t be about hitting all the “must-see” spots — it’d be about soaking up the vibe, having great conversations, laughing a lot, and making sure every day felt a little different, and then of course end it at a comedy club every night. That’s what Dallas gives you if you do it right.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom and dad, who never ever gave up on me.
