We had the good fortune of connecting with Body B and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Body B, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Life ain’t fair, nobody owes you nothing”. My uncle Reginald told me that when I was a teenager and it stuck with me. It means no matter the obstacles in life, your success or failure falls solely on you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like I’m one of the best engineers to do this. I used to downplay myself until my clients assured me that I should be mentioned with the best at least in the city. I think that my background as an artist helps paint those canvas that the artists bring in to be mixed and or mastered. That also help me when it comes to recording an artist, as I’ve been in their shoes being behind the microphone. How did I get here, well like I mentioned I was an artist, was a big part of one of the biggest records to come out of Dallas during the Boogie movement, but not knowing the business and other things played a factor in me getting screwed out of that.
That was a tough situation I’ve never really spoke on it publicly it hurt that much at the time. But that situation and my daughter made we want to enroll on school to learn the music business.
Long story short, I went to Mediatech Institute and learned that the artist was the last to get paid and the engineer and producer was paid first lol. Nah seriously after learning to navigate pro tools and being mentored by Nagaris Johnson I fell in love with engineering.
I graduated was hired at the school and spent years there, man I had some epic sessions up there. One day that all changed after being off a couple of days, the new director called me in his office and told me that I was a man of great influence but fired me in the same breath claiming it causes a hostile environment.I was upset but that’s what I needed because I had come complacent up there, I had clients and had a good name for myself. That created a monster. So to answer that question or wasn’t easy at all. Finding the right studio to work out of to finding a spot that would let me just lease the studio instead of working for them. Shout Out to Al B at Vibe Lab.
What I’ve learned is never be complacent always push for a higher level, a better situation, feel me?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Man first I’ll take em to somewhere like Ronnie’s in the Nawf to get some grub. Gotta put them on Big Mama’s too. Ion really go out like that no more so I’d grab some bottles and hit the best studio in the city, Vibe Lab call up Dallas artist Kemo Tha Yungin aka 4-Man and have a time in the stu.
Gotta go check out the Mavs for sure, Rangers, Stars. Deep Ellum is a must as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most definitely, first of all I’d like give thanks to God, without his blessing I’m nothing. DeShay for never letting me give up and always encouraging me to follow my dreams. She’s the best wife you could ask for. My auntie Bird for taking me in at 14 years old and raising me as I was hers. My mother Joann for sure because it wouldn’t possible without her sacrifice, she literally gave up her dream of hooping to have me at 15. Man Shout out to Hunter Man younger brother as well, no matter what is a new computer, speakers etc etc Call Lil Bro and he gone make it happen. Lastly Shout out to All of the artists that trust me with their art, I’m forever grateful. BBS WREKORDS WE FA EVA DIRTY BIG UPS TO ALL THE GUYS. Can’t forget my cousin Chevy, he paid for my first real studio as a graduation present. Shout out to my children Kemorian, Kaydence and Kingston they are why I do this.
